CT 26 Filter Replacement Confusion...
« on: May 12, 2017, 09:12 PM »
Hello...

I need to purchase a new HEPA filter for my CT 26.  I looked at the Amazon website, and they list what appear to be 4 different part numbers for filters for a CT 26.

496170
496171
496172
498994

They also use two different terms for the filters "main filter" and HEPA filter"

So, I thought to clear up any confusion I would go to the Official Festool Website.  Well, I was not able to anything about filters or bage for my unit.  All I found was hoses.  I did a search on the Festool Website and came up with nothing.

All this being said, would someone please give me the "correct" part number for the HEPA filter - and - please tell me just how many filters are in a CT 26 and what they are called.

Thanks,

David M from Wisconsin

One big filter  498994 is the HEPA for CT26.    You can confirm by opening your vac.  [wink]

I looked on the Festool site and found a number you didn't list.
496120 which is the long life filter bag that can be reused up to 500 times.
It carries a price that reflects that long life though...$218.00

https://www.festoolusa.com/accessory/496120---longlife-fis-ct-26#Overview

I found the PDF copy of the manual. It covers operation of both the CT 26 & 36,
but it does not list the part numbers for the replacement bag or filter.

For a company that seems to have everything figured to the smallest detail, I
would think that the part number you are most likely to need would be listed
in the manual, that of the bag.

Of course I would expect that you could just open up your CT and get the number
off the bag and the main filter provided that you have access to the CT at this time.
If it's located at another location then maybe not so easy.

Thanks for the info...yeah, I suppose if I had looked at the filter I would have found a part number.  I will check that.

But, what are the other part numbers for filters listed for my unit?  I am left confused by Amazon's listing with 4 different numbers.  Just curious.

Thanks again,
David M from Wisconsin

Consider working with a dealer who knows the product, even if it's not us. The prices are the same no matter who you order from. We offer free shipping on all Festool orders. [wink]

There are three filters for the CT 26.

http://www.festoolproducts.com/accessories/dust-extractors/filters.html?tn_festool_compatibility=CT+26

The HEPA filter, 99.97% of all particles down to 0.3 micron - 498994
The high performance filter, which filters to 1 micron - 496170
The wet filter, for using the CT 26 as a wet vac. - 496169

https://festools-online.com/496186-selfclean-filter-bag-sc-fis-ct-26-5-pcs.html

ToolNut has a listing of the various bags and filters:

http://www.toolnut.com/festool/festool-dust-extractors/festool-filter-bags.html

http://www.toolnut.com/festool/festool-dust-extractors/festool-filters.html

As do the other online retailers such as Beaver Industrial. I have found their
websites to be a better source of info than the Festool site sometimes.

Here is what I found in a quick search on Google

496170 is the main filter for the CT26 & 36
https://www.festool.com/Products/Accessories/Pages/Variations.aspx?pid=496170&ppid=584050

496171 is the HEPA main filter for the CT26 & 36

496172 is the High Performance filter for the CT36 AC
https://www.festool.com/Products/Accessories/Pages/Variations.aspx?pid=496170&ppid=584132

498994 is a HEPA main filter for the CT26, 36, & 48 but not for use with CTRs that have the Autoclean function.

Navigation on their website is goofy, but here is how you find it.
1. Products...Accessories and consumable materials
2. Application category = dust extraction
3. Product category = mobile dust extractors
4. Accessory category = main filter
5. Tool = CT26 (NOT CT26AC)

As mentioned above, one is clearly indicated as HEPA, the other is the less expensive non-HEPA filter.

@TylerC or anyone else: where does that 500 time refill number on the long-life bag come from?  Is it just that in your tests of the bag it started degrading, failing on average around the 500th fill-up?

EDIT: I just thought of a good tag-line for Festool BTW:  Festool:  Our filter bags are more expensive than your vacuums.

Is the above on the Festool-USA site? Because when I try to follow the above path I get nowhere at step 2.

I navigate to the point you see below, then there is nothing more I can do. If I enter something in the search box, no results are returned meaning that nothing happens not that I get a response of nothing found.

It should appear just below in the form of buttons as you see in the screen cap below.  Either it's a browser issue or your browser is blocking some of the content.  There is a circle with a slash through it on your browser window next the the page refresh icon.  If you click that does it tell you anything meaningful?

I'm using Safari in iOS in the screen cap below.

That was the problem, thanks for pointing that out.
Browser is IE11 with Ad-blocker and tracking blocker running.
Once I disabled those as you suggested then I was able to see
the rest of the content.

Like you said, they were probably tested to see when they would start to deteriorate in some way. I'll see if I can get confirmation from the HQ product team.

As for using the website, a quick tip (if you know the product number that you're looking for is to put "/@" and the item number as the URL. For example, festoolusa.com/@498994

Thanks for that tip @TylerC, works great. Much faster
than trying to navigate through the menu selections.

But as you say only works if you have the number.
