ETS 150/3 or ETS 150/5
« on: November 21, 2017, 01:11 PM »
Question for you all.

I already have the Rotex RO150 and all Granat sanding paper for it.

I need an ETS sander, I figured that I should get the 150 version since I have the sanding paper for it, but should I get the 3 or 5?

I will mainly sand plywood, and at times finish sand wood (walnut/sapele/poplar/etc) with it.

Hi,

ETS150 / 5 (or EC version) is a perfect compliment to the RO150 since the RO150 already has the /5 random orbit stroke.

  I mean /3 .

ETS EC 150/ 3 or 5 is the way to go.  I personally would go /3 as a compliment, for the finer orbit, as the Rotex has the 5mm orbit.

I would second the ETS 150/3 (or EC version) as a compliment.  I have both and, if I start with the Rotex, I'll switch it to random orbit, then go to the 150/3 to finish from there.  Have less problems with swirls that way.  YMMV.

For plywood, especially good quality, I'll reach for the 150/3 or, for larger pieces, pull out the RS2-E.

Gerald

@SRSemenza  Seth, wouldn't the finer /3 stroke be a better complement to finish off the coarser RO150 /5 stroke?  Or am I missing something?

Great feedback from everyone here!

The 5 mm will be more aggressive and faster for stock removal. Using 3 mm is less aggressive and better for finishing your finish or sanding in-between coats. Most of the time, 5 mm is what people will need.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I think someone switched the 3 and 5 on my keyboard.  [huh]

I have the /5 and find that it leaves a nice fine finish and doesnt need to be followed by a finer sander. Its also much easier to use 1 handed than the RO150. Either one would serve you well to follow the Rotex but i bet if you got the 150/5 youd find yourself usong the Rotex alot less.
