MFK 700
« on: November 10, 2016, 02:17 PM »
What is the difference between the MFK700 EQ Set (574368) and the MFK700 EQ/B (574456) besides the 1.5 degree base, bearing and dust shroud in the Set?    Are the basic machines, and the standard (vertical) bases the same?  Or is the EQ/B really different for the Conturo?

I ask because I would like the MFK700 EQ Set with the zero degree base (don't need the 1.5 degree) and was wondering if I could buy the EQ/B and add the other items separately essentially making a Set with only the zero degree base?   Or does someone sell the set with the zero degree base instead of the 1.5?

Thanks.

Other than the bearing set, hood and the horizontal base, the other big difference is the vertical base. I've included two pictures to show the difference. The difference in the base is partially why the EQ/B is largely used with the Conturo.

We do not sell the individual parts separately. You might find a dealer who would swap parts, but I can't really guarantee that. For the most part, what you see is what you get with this one.

Ahh, OK those photos help.  Thank you.  The EQ/B has the bearing brake(?) and a shim or additional spacer layer on it too.  Seems too different than EQ to start with.

Wish you guys offered the option of either horizontal base with the kit or sold kit without any horizontal base.  I just don't do laminate and all it would do is collect dust, which makes it essentially a $133 paperweight.

I'll check with some dealers.  Thanks for getting back to me and clarifying with the photos.

I looked into getting the basic base as I've got the full set mfk.

I found you can buy the either the whole base or just the spare parts and add them to the base in the full set.

Surprised you're saying it's not available to buy separately, I thought all spares were available.

This surprised me a bit too as I assumed the other items in the set could be ordered.

However, my issue is a base I don't need.   I tried 2 dealers, Tyler, to see if they would switch out the 1.5 base for the zero base as suggested and both said no can do.  My local dealer (from whom I think I have bought every festool power tool festool sells (true, I am fan) except the MFK and has worked with me on many things) said they would love to do it but Festool was too restrictive to let them do it (Festool wouldn't let them discount the 1.5 on the rack or provide packaging to sell at list).

I am a festool fan, but I've never encountered having to buy something from them I did not want. Not sure what I will do....I just can't get my head around paying $133 for what would be a paper weight.   The MFK seems like such a good tool for so many other things than to "profile" it's sale to those only doing laminates....

Sorry, I am frustrated.

Perhaps list the item you don't want in the fog classifieds or on eBay. You never know if someone is looking for the one thing that you don't need!

This is my one gripe with Festool.  I generally think the accessories are overpriced and packaged in a way you frequently need to buy several.

I like my tools, have bought several, will continue to buy, but have this one issue.
