I was looking at the German Festool site today and I noticed they had a page about the TS55R, but not only that, they also had a page about Rubin2.
From what I gather (my german is rusty at best though!) it will get the job done 30% faster.
So, my question is, what is really new about it? Will it be the same kind of game-changer as Granat was, or will it just make Rubin2 the choice for sanding wood again?
(I should also point out that I have no clue if/when these will make it to NA, I just saw it on the german site and this is the only place where I figure I can get more info...)

I don't see any reason to make it like Granat (broad based type of paper). I do see it possibly lasting longer.

Since we don't have it in the U.S. and there are no immediate plans to introduce it, I can only tell you what I've read about it. It's an evolution in the Rubin abrasive line and uses a new bonded resin coating. This makes it last longer, cut better and prevents clogging. I don't have any experience with it, so I can't offer a comparison to Granat. However, Rubin is designed for use on bare wood. Granat can be used on most any surface.

I was hoping they had fed you some secret samples so you could give an opinion Shane.  Oh well, I'll just have to buy some when my current stash of Rubin runs out and see if I notice any difference. |

No samples in the U.S. at all. This is a very new product. Like I said, there are no immediate plans to introduce it in our market.

I don't speak German but can read a little French, enough to catch the main idea of it maybe http://www.festool.be/FR/About-us/News/Pages/Rubin2.aspxLooks like they added a grit (220) and made it a bit more aggressive as well as longer lasting. It says something about two layers of resin binding to reduce loading of the sheet. -Jim |
