Just checking to see if Festool offices are open today, if most orders will be shipping, and when we may know what recon tools are still available (after they get through the initial round of orders)

Jeff,

We have some employees in the office today. I came in and can attest to the fact that road conditions near the office are bad. I suspect some of the recondition tools orders will be processed today. I don't know how many. I do know that there are many in queue to be processed. I'll try to offer some updates later in the day.

I realize everyone is anxious to get some information. Your patience and understanding is appreciated.

Thanks for the update!

Most schools are still closed in our area (Michigan) today, as most secondary roads still need to be plowed. With all this cold weather, I am sure they are having a hard time melting any of the ice around Indianapolis office...

Hard to tell in this photo, but that's ice on the road with some packed snow on top. Our offices are outside of Indianapolis proper in a rural community. They don't have the best snow removal to be honest. The county I live in is much, much better and the major roads are clear.

Shane,

Is that the road in the office park, or the main road?

It's Route 32, which I take to work. Many of our employees live in more rural towns than I do. My commute was good until I entered Boone County, where our offices are.

So... here's my update. Because our offices were closed for several days, we are behind on processing all orders including regular dealer orders (non-reconditioned tools). We are working quickly to get all orders processed as quickly as possible. I know that some of the reconditioned tool orders have been entered into our system. But, I would expect it to be another day or two for us to get caught up.

What does that really mean? Well, it means that many of you will not get a confirmation for your order before Monday.

Like I said, I realize everyone is anxious to hear their order status. Please bear with us as we get these orders fulfilled.

As soon as I have more information to share, I'll be sure to post about it.  Wink

Thanks.

Robert, sounds like you need to check with the missus, not me.  Poke

You can check them out when your here and order as many as you like from your dealer. That's assuming there will be any left.  Eek!

The stupid thing is that we have no clue what we are getting so, we couldn't move to another item if we missed out on our first choice.

For instance, I ordered a Domino and if the specific configuration I ordered is sold out prior to my order getting in than I would order a different version/package of the Domino. With this silly ordering system I have to just put all my eggs in one basket, hope and wait and wait and wait... to find out if my order was successful or not, in the mean time all the other versions of the Domino will probably go out of stock. Blink

You would think a high end tool company like Festool would be operating with a real time inventory ordering system and not this 1990 version of order processing.

Our entire sales team is in the office today and diligently keying away at orders. I should mention that some focus is being given to dealer's regular orders. However, some reconditioned tool orders are also being entered. I have been informed that they sales team will be in tomorrow to (hopefully) completely keying in all pending reconditioned tool orders.

If you ordered a 20% off tool and it's out of stock, you'll be given the choice of opting for a 10% off while they are available.

wood wiz-

In Festool's defense- (not to get off topic), but I install warehouse software and ordering system software for a company significantly larger than Festool (4 sites over 800,00 square feet and 3 over 1 million- not inclusing over 100 manufacturing sites).  We have real time visibility and it is never 100% accurate.  No one's is- period.  If they invested in a system that you think they need for this sale now, you would pay twice as much for your Festool products you love so much.  Believe me- no one wants to see that.  The system they have works for them for now, this Recon Sale is a blip.

I do understand the frustration and that is why I chose to stay out of this one.... The weather did not help at all!

I guess I don't understand people's frustration.

First, full disclosure:  I'm in for a MFT/3 at 80%, then an MFT/3 at 90% if not available, and the same for a RAS sander.

To those who frequent this forum, Festools at 80% of retail are a hot commodity; due to supply and demand, there is likely to be a shortage of tools that are in heavy demand.  Its not Festool's fault if there are only 20 routers available at 20% off, and that there are 30 people interested.

In a situation like that, there's really no great, "fair" way to allocate the routers.  I guess you could do a lottery, but do you really expect Festool to do that?  I would be perfectly happy if they decided to go to their best customers first.  I am probably not one of those who would get a router in that case, but I would understand.

I'm not exactly sure how they're doing it.  If it was first come first serve, then I hope I went with the dealer with the fastest fingers.  Or maybe they decided to fill the orders of their best dealers first.  However they're choosing, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, because from everything I've seen while at a class at Festool, while asking questions of Festool employees, and while dealing with them online, as well as their dealers, I know they take customer service seriously, and aren't out to screw people by withholding routers.

This should not be treated as a normal retail situation.  This should be treated like a Craigslist situation:  sometimes, you're the first guy to respond, and you win.  Sometimes you don't win.  If you win, you get a great deal; if you don't there will be more great deals coming along, and you just have to be patient.

I guess, to summarize, quit whining over another man's lunch deal.

Now, Shane... when should I expect that MFT/3 and sander?  I'm going to be so mad if I don't win! Wink

To clarify, there's absolutely no preferential treatment amongst dealers or customers. It is simply first come. The point of this program was to offer a great deal for people wanting to get a tool on their wish list. I wish there was more of a positive attitude.

I truly appreciate the opportunity to get a good deal on a great tool. That isn't anything I would ever gripe about.  Big Grin

I just think the ordering process was/is rudimentary at best and 20 years behind the times. Compound that with the weather situation which has significantly delayed the processing you have customers asking WTH? and are a bit frustrated with the experience. Like I stated above my main frustration is that I would love to just know, YES, I am getting my order or NO, I missed out. That way I could move my money to the next item that is available on the want list. Instead I sit here waiting as everything goes out of stock. BTW not all of us have thousands of dollars to order multiple versions of items hoping to get one but with the potential to get all of them.

Positive attitude will certainly return when/if I get what I ordered and to that end I think I probably will as my order was in early to the dealer and the dealer has stated they sent in orders early. LOL Tongue Out With that if I missed out and everything else I wanted goes out of stock as I wait for a yes or no answer it will only add to the frustration.

I don't want to be rude or ruffle anyones feathers but....STOP WHINING!

I mean really, what we are dealing with here is a limited time offer at getting a good deal on some festool's.  Do you really expect Festool to spend a large sum of money for some software that will only be used for 1 month??  Also, I know that after contacting my dealer and reading Shane's posts on here, I had a pretty good understanding of what this situation would be like.  Don't say you don't have thousands of dollars to order several of the same tool, because for my order, I told my dealer I wanted the 20% off, if they didnt have that then get me a 10% off.  I placed this offer just after the announcement was made and there has been no charge to my credit card.  So if I'm lucky, I will get one of the two and be charged accordingly.  If I'm not and I dont get either, then I won't be charged for anything.  And if I don't get what I want, no big deal, no sour grapes.  I understand that this process is a little rudimentary, but hey, I signed up for it.  If I don't like it, then I shouldn't have signed up.  Want a hassle-free transaction with no waiting?  Then buy new and pay full-price.  Want a nice deal like 20% or 10% off?  Then accept the conditions that come along with it.

I look at it like this...Festool is trying to unload some stock, while at the same time offering a nice discount to customers.  If you can't appreciate this, then shame on you.

Am I getting antsy and checking here and on my e-mail to know if I am getting what I ordered?  Absolutely.  But patience is a virtue and I understand that Festool is doing the best they can, and have also had some terrible weather to overcome.  If I needed the tool I ordered right away for some reason, then I should have ordered new.  Since thats not the case, I will wait patiently while everything gets sorted out and keep my fingers crossed that I'm one of the lucky ones.

Personally, I would like to extend my thanks to Festool and all the dealers for their diligent work and effort towards making this happen.

Sorry to ramble, but reading through these posts and seeing everyone complain is really pissing me off.  You guys are complaining that you don't know soon enough whether you are gonna get the tool that you want.  You want something to complain about?  How about the thousands of people in this country that don't know how they are going to feed their children because they can't find a job?  Please put this in perspective.  If you get what you want, homerun...If not, GET OVER IT.  After all, they are just tools, not life or death.

Fed up,

Gary

-1st Post-

I do not know if this helps any of those stressing out about their orders or wondering the status of their fate, but I can say my dealer emailed me shortly after noon today with a tracking number for my order.  I have to say I have been patient as well and understood the terms of the auction and was fine with getting or not getting my tools.  I ordered 4 items and got my order into the dealer on the 1st few days the offer was announced.  I also know that my dealer got the order in 1st thing at 12:0x AM on the morning they could get the order in.  I understood the issue with the weather as most all of us in the U.S. have been hit hard with these storms (I am in CT).  I think Shane has done a great job keeping us up to date with the status of Festool USA and the operability they have had.  He has gone above and beyond giving us updates even though the company was not officially open.  I also can give accolades to my dealer, Tool Nut (Sean), for a job well done.

I wish everyone luck and hang in there.  I think most people will have success.  Just hang in there another day.
