Good morning guys, decided to upgrade my computer to windows 8, worst thing I ever did. There is a huge issue with the fonts and rendering. I find as do 100's of other people that text becomes blurry and when you spend a short time on the computer end up with headaches. Checked online, no updates but 100's of complaints.
So I would suggest at this stage to avoid any upgrading, system is not worth it.

Upgraded to windows 8 Pro the other day and I haven't had any issue with fonts.

Upgraded to windows 8 Pro the other day and I haven't had any issue with fonts.
Well I guess you are one of the lucky ones. Seems to be really bad with IE10 and office 2013 |

I ran the Win8 Upgrade assistant and was warned about the processor and the NX was turned off. But the error was not flagged a fatal. So I Paid the 40 bucks download Win8 and installed the software. After the install the system would not boot.  Did some research and found a utility from Microsoft called coreinfo.exe. It lists out all the info of your CPU. And guess what mine does not have the NX feature, so Windows will NOT run. Still trying to get my $40 back. When I called the Microsoft store they could not issue a refund because there computer system was "DOWN". They promised to call back by 4PM Saturday, but here it is Sunday PM and no call. Microsoft need to take a lesson form the customer service staff over at Amazon... |

I would suggest waiting until drivers stable out. Not windows fault, just some lazy companies out there that don't want to support their older gear.

I flip technology so frequently now that I'd never consider an O/S upgrade ... patches and update - yes certainly, but I'm weathered enough never to consider the upgrade game again - particularly with windows.
Just a word on Windows 8, I've had a lot of feedback on the file system performing poorly with large files, as if it just expects the user to be running SSD's.

I only upgraded to 7 about 2 months ago because my good old XP wasn't able to handle my new 8 GB ram system, if it wasn't for that i would have kept XP. I wouldn't jump in on a new system so fast, and certainly not one from windows, as it seems like every other new system from them is a fail. Well I guess you are one of the lucky ones. Seems to be really bad with IE10 and office 2013

You hit the nail on the head. MS DOES blow every other release in a huge way, and especially the ones with major changes in technology. The wisdom in the IT community around here is to NEVER upgrade anything from MS until Service Pack 1 has been released and someone ELSE has tried it successfully. Windows 8 has all the required elements for a major failure; new technology and being the other release. I'll stick with Win 7 for the foreseeable future. |

The thing that I'm having a hard time understanding about all the Windows8 hype, is why would anyone want to use a tablet-based operating system on a desktop computer? The core operating system has had little change, but what has changed is the User Interface to resemble a tablet or phone interface. So why put a tablet interface on a desktop PC?

I have to say using a full OS on a tablet, especially windows, is appealing because of the software compatibility. Touch based os on a desktop seems a little odd to me but I haven't tried 8 out yet

It's usable with a mouse and keyboard, and if you have a Touch screen or Touch PC such as some of the HP offerings it should work well. I believe their reasoning is to have a common interface between your PC, Tablet, and Phone... You'll be able to seamlessly switch between devices. |
