Just a word to the wiser:  Numerous people are having problems upgrading to iOS on their iPhones.  You might want to wait.  (Ken is rolling on the floor laughing right now)  I upgraded three devices yesterday, had problems with all three.  Two (mine) are now working fine.  One (wife's) is not.  Eek!

Download crashed every time I tried to download iTunes 10.5, so I couldn't get it installed. Not a good sign. Suppose my 4s will come with it pre-installed.  Wink

A friend of mine upgraded the OS on his iPhone a while back. I kept getting called from his phone and when I answered, there was nobody there. The first couple of times, I though it was a pocket dial, the next several started making me wonder why he thought it was funny.

Veronica and I were going to get her nephews and take them to the farmer's market. On the way, we stopped at his house to ask him to stop calling. He met us outside with his iPhone in hand and proceeded to state that he couldn't get it to stop without turning off the phone. Every time he turned it on, it would call the last number dialed, (which was mine), before he could do anything else.

Apple isn't as perfect as their reputation would make one believe...

Luke, you should have heeded my warning.  Now you've let the darkside into the confines of your A4 chip's ram.  Hey!  There's a shot for that.  Poke

Tom,

Too bad you didin't have one of those 900 numbers.  Could have made a nice profit that day.

Lucky me.  Next appointment in 2 hours!  Talked to my brother and Apple tech support is slammed.  He tried to upgrade his iPad yesterday and had problems too.  According to what he read some others had my same issue.  I never thought that I would say this, but thank goodness today is a rain day.

Peter. Sorry to hear of your issues. I have  installed iOS on 2 out the 6 devices that need updates.  So far so good!  Wish me luck with the remaining 4.

as part of my day job, I deal with iOS development and have been on iOS5 since their first developer release.  What are the specific issues you are experiencing with the upgrade? While, I can't do much over forum and emails but I definitely can try.

What problems are you experiencing?

Me?

I have the apple on my screen, then the progress bar starts, then that stops after about 2 seconds, the the spinning emblem starts.  Repeat.  It finally stopped after the battery died.

I try to stick to the rule "no dot zeros"; last time I had to use a 'dot zero' it was for the development environment for iOS applications.  Polite words cannot describe how absurdly horrible that application was; there is no platinum white pill you can take in quantity to make up for that application's release: undoubtably the worse I've used in my career.

I only used the seed release of iOS 5 to test my application that was being released the same day.  Mostly worked correctly except a couple dialogs that iOS5 decided were best viewed full screen.  Not sure if they fixed that bug before release; assuming not.

BINGO!  You were correct.  I didn't know that trick.  Never had an issue with my ios devices - except for one that decided to go toilet swimming.  The marriage has been saved for another week.  Big Grin

Ironically, I tried my iphone 3G that went swimming on 6/30/2010.  I actually got it to work!  now to get the images off of it!

Yeah.  I have another ipod now.  Like I need another one.

Generally, upgrading major version is prone to issues with iPhones based on my experience.

I would recommend a full backup and do a restore rather than upgrade.

I upgraded one device last night and two today.  The one last night was painfully slow due to overloaded servers but it worked.

No issues today.

i did read on Apple forums that some users were going into airplane mode before upgrading to overcome some issues with verification.

I updated my iPod2 and 3GS the first day. The iPod was fine but My iPhone was wiped out. It did something to the sim card and would not reconize it. I ended up stopping at the AT&T store after Lowes and they put a new sim card in and it booted up fine. Kinda sucks I had to do that cause the 4S will be here sometime today. Where is that UPS truck Huh??

I did lose a lot of my apps.  Mad some really important ones like my Invoice2go. $60,000+ estimates GONE. Im glad i sent almost all of them out and CC myself.  Crying

Other things I lost were the upgrades for Garage Band and iPhoto. I have to make a list after I get my 4S today and call the app tech and get all of them replaced.  Mad Luv Macs but this upgrade to Lion and IOS5 wiped me out.

iPad 2. No problem with the upgrade though it did take 1.5 hours, though that was no fault of the iPad or MacBook Pro. It's because of the 4,000 pics 320 apps and the videos. All needing to be backed up and rewritten and the pics reencoded. The only data not copied was Instapaper's and the Mirror Online and that was on their servers anyway.
