Custom Systainer Labels
« on: August 12, 2013, 11:14 AM »
Since becoming a massive Systainer Fan and completely converting my tool collection into Systainers I've been frustrated by my labelling system.
First i tried the Dymo labels... nah
Then i used the Festool style ones we can print out but hey were to limiting on what i wanted to do, yes they suited the Festool Tools but what about all my other stuff.... makita, Bosch, Knipex, Fein...etc

Well I got sick of them and started playing around trying to come up with a better design, I discovered that i could open the festool .pdf's in Adobe Illustrator.  And in doing this also discoverd that i could modify them to how i wanted them.
Now my extremely limited knowledge of Illustrator stopped me from creating a template like Festools,  but i was able to create a Template that I could keep changing a saving.

Anyways I got what i wanted and I'm happy to share here.   Feel free to use the ones i have created so far for your own use, I'll upload more as i create them.
if i have this uploaded correctly they should be a .pdf  and in the correct size if printed.

The first image is the style i have gone with. The Festool and Blue Line remain constant all the changes are above this.

Thanks...though you might want to check the spelling on your Rotex labels.

Thanks...though you might want to check the spelling on your Rotex labels.

Thanks for pointing out my mistake... i have since corrected it and now they reflect the correct spelling.

If anyone would like me to make one for them to suit a specific tool please let me know. Happy to help out.

Note to Mods:  this was the second time i had to upload the pdf's as my first thread kept coming up as a blank page, if the Mods are able to delate that thread they " My Custom Systainer Labels" they can as it's effectively the same as this one.

Your  Welcome Kevin... if there is anythiing you would like made up let me know and I'll do it.

I've also re-done the Fein labels and also added a corded version.

In regards to personal details or Business details i choose to keep that off these labels, as on the left side of my systainers i insert one of my business cards, the right and sides are for the labels.

These are really neat.  Would be very cool if we could get a library of images for every tool available.

BTW, are you printing this on to "peel and stick" paper, or just regular paper and sticking to the systainer by some other method?

My intention is to do one for every Festool in a Systainer as i do them i up load them here.  I also will be doing up some for Parts and Accessories as need then myself also.  Clamps , MFT parts,  Surfix, etc

As for how i print them what i choose to do was print them on 250gsm Photographic paper, this way i could get 4x6 pieces of paper and also achieve a good print quality.  (100 pieces was around $20) not a cheap way to go but i like the results.
After i printed 3 of each, i would laminate them all together, and then trim them to suit with a paper trimer so as to get a clean straight cut. After this i would put a piece of  very thin double sided tape on the back of them... and then just put them into the slots in  the systainer.
They have given me a very organised and clean result this way. They won't fall out and i realtivley protected from damage, plus i can remove them if needed.

Really nice labels Mike!

Would you add a label for the Compact Cleaning Kit and one for the SysLite to your list?

I'm going to be purchasing a second SysLite and plan to put them both in their own Systainer with the charging cables.

Thanks!

Here are some examples.
I do make labels for Classic, Mini, Maxi and T-Loc systainers.
Mainly Festool/Protool and of course for other brands too.
I also make the right side labels which normally contains the Wattage, rpm for the machine and the bar code besides a few extra logos and Made in xxx.

They are great labels Neeleman.... especially the way you keep them along the same theme with all the different brands. Well Done!
Thnaks for adding to the thread, gives all the members an expanded choice

Personally i wanted a simpler format, I don't need all the text, just the name of the Product and a Picture ( be it much larger ) on all 3 sides -  I grab my systainers from my van by a quick glance at the label and having them all bolder and larger makes it easier.

Note: i have updated the TS55EBQ

Hey thanks for the great labels guys.

I found the free Linux program Inkscape does a great job importing the pdfs and images here, and it has very useful tools for laying out the images on a page of labels.

Since I normally store my Systainers in edgewise to save linear shelf space the side labels are very helpful.

Hi,
I would also like to show you few of my labels. I was making them in CorelDraw and after printing I was laminating them, they are harder, so they are better holding in the
label holder and of course they are more resistant to dirt and humidity.

If you download and install Adobe Reader XI you will be able to import image files of the type Jpeg, Png, Bmp, and Gif. So you can use your cell phone camera to take an image of your stuff and inset it into the label.

Reader XI has added the ability  to import an image file into a PDf form.  This is not possible with older versions of Reader.

Resurrecting an old thread...thanks to @mike68au for his work on these labels.  I wasn't feeling great today, so rather then spending time in the shop I worked on additional labels I had a need for.

These included:

Festool Domino 500 Tenon Assortment
Festool Domino 700 Tenon Assortment
Festool ETS EC 150_3 Sander
Festool HL850 E Planer
Festool MFK700 Trim Router
Festool OF2200 Router Accessories
Festool RTS 400 EQ Sander
Festool VAC SYS Pads
Festool VAC SYS PUMP
Festool VAC SYS SE1

Omer Brad Nailer
Porter Cable Spindle Sander 121
Push Sticks (Bench Dog logo, I have a couple and the logo is cool)
Router Bits (Used the Whiteside logo because I primarily have/use them)
True Position Drill Guide

I'm attaching the PDF's here as well as making the PDF, Photoshop, and source images available from my Dropbox.  I want to stress I'm not a graphic artist - some are pretty good, some are eh, but you get what you pay for...

Nice labels indeed.
But I don't think some of them can have two brandnames on it.
Like the Fein MM with the Festool logo beneath it.
It's Fein or Festool but not both.
Other labels don't have the Festool logo beneath.
Here's my Fein version also.

Resurrecting an old thread...thanks to @mike68au for his work on these labels.  I wasn't feeling great today, so rather then spending time in the shop I worked on additional labels I had a need for.

Thanks very much - these are great and I can use quite a few of them. It never occurred to me to put a nicer label on the Festool tool systainers but the original labels are kind of difficult to identify from a distance with older eyes  [embarassed].

I'm using the link above to the UK website for their PDF's. Can somebody tell me how to change the font size, or if it's even possible?

I'm on a Mac but downloaded the acrobat reader. I can change out the picture etc. but the default font is pretty small.

Thanks!

@jdm5 - thanks for sharing these.  They are excellent.  I've used many of them.

Do you have labels for any of the drills?  The CXS or T15 would both be welcome!

Also the 1010 Router!

@neilc here you go (now that I have the templates setup they are pretty quick).  I'm also keeping all of them in my Dropbox folder (much easier).  If anyone is aware of a Festool central file site let me know, happy to centralize them somewhere else.

Gimp can open the Photoshop files I've generated, and I've stored them all in my Dropbox:

I've not used Gimp but from what I read you should be able to modify them that way.

@jdm5 - Thanks, you got most of the what I can use.
(Do you happen to have a DEROS one too?)

@mike68au - Thanks M8

I have some DIY ones out of card stock with marker on them, but half the time they pop out.
Is there any special lamination deal? Or just bring them in and the lamination is standard?
Or do I need to say some specific "???" lamination (like heavy duty, or 10#)?

I've been printing them on reasonable quality office paper, then using 3 or 5mm heat laminating pouches with an electric laminator - I think I have this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Thermal-Laminator-Roller-TL906/dp/B00CLV8ZIU/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1460893158&sr=8-5&keywords=scotch+laminator

And then just the business card size pouches:

http://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Thermal-Laminating-Pouches-TP5900-20/dp/B0018NDH4Y/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1460893279&sr=8-5&keywords=3m+laminator+pouch

I trim them to size, and they work fine.

It took a while to find the card stock I wanted to use for this. I called around and looked online to order plastic cards, but they all wanted to do large runs of a single image. I looked for printable plastic but mostly those were for laser printers, or transparencies for projectors and too flimsy.

Eventually I looked up "waterproof paper" and found my solution. I got a 10 pack of this: Inkjet Teslin Synthetic Paper - 10 Sheets https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004PX7ZTC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_CZk4wb1GET0VW

I printed these in my inkjet printer on Matte Photo Paper setting.

After a few months of not-gentle usage, they're holding up great, wet and dry.

I've also re-done the Fein labels and also added a corded version.

In regards to personal details or Business details i choose to keep that off these labels, as on the left side of my systainers i insert one of my business cards, the right and sides are for the labels.

I've been working on reorganizing my shop / Systainers - realized I had a bunch of Systainer labels to make and wasn't thrilled with my method of printing custom labels (posted above, basically printing on paper, trimming, laminating, then trimming again to fit...too time consuming and imperfect).

I found this thread:  http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-and-tanos-systainers/my-systainer-label-printing-process/ (complete credit to @dbroere ) and wanted to point that thread out here...

I purchased a Canon MG7720 (about $110 on Amazon), the 'J tray' for the Canon inkjects ($18 on Amazon), and a package of 100 PVC CR80 cards (~$14 for the 100...0.14 each).

I've since been converting my original Photoshop images to the CR80 format - and I have to tell you this is absolutely the way to go if you're willing to spend the money.

They look ABSOLUTELY professional, and are a definite time saver - I print them directly from Photoshop onto the PVC card and they are ready to go (ok, I let them dry for a little bit).

I'm uploading my converted 'J tray' / PVC card Photoshop files to my Dropbox account; I'm not converting them to PDF as the formatting has to be exact and I'm not confident it will be converting to PDF and then printing them.  They are here if you're interested:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qjgmudu7ji070hm/AACvVHA29PBUv-sVVAYLjgU_a?dl=0

Thank you @dbroere for pointing this out...I'm thrilled with the results!

I looked at the CR 80 cards. They say that these should be printed on the Zebra printer not inkjet printers, but I was looking at the 500 pack not the 100 pack you were referring to. Could you please post the link to the CR 80 cards you are using with the inkjet printer? Thanks.

I'm using the 'Brainstorm ID' cards specifically for printing using inkjets:

Link

I chose Brainstorm ID as the seller - Brainstorm ID had the templates for Photoshop (and a ton of other stuff) plus instructions on how to use them, so I went with them.  Looks like the price dropped down to $12.81 as I post this.  (absolutely no affiliation with them, but if they went through the trouble to provide free templates and instructions I'd reward them).

I've done about 75 cards over the last couple days (3 per Systainer) and am still thrilled.

The printer is a "$100 printer" - the print quality for this is excellent, but the build of the printer is very plasticky - I would be gentle with it.  The other caveat is I wanted to have the ink run all the way to the edge of the card - which means that a small amount of ink prints onto the J tray...I'd recommend cleaning the tray every 4-5 cards so it doesn't build up and eventually smudge either your hand or the card.

These labels are awesome. I have a few empty Classic Systainers used to store my Microfence Edge Guide and Circle Jig, Foredom TXH, LR32, Drill Bits etc. Have been thinking about making labels for them but don't seem to find a template for the Classic labels anywhere.   It is not too difficult to start from scratch but if one exists, would be a great help.

Zipped  application attached (systainerLables.zip) + few pictures, so you can see how it works.
All reports printing labels are data driven - no embedded pictures.
Open the mdb. Edit table Labels_Systaiiner (spelling, I know) and change data
in columns:pic_nm, logo_nm and Side_Picture to point to wherever you keep yours. Try not to change the sizes of objects in reports. The reports will automatically size any pictures you use to correct systainer label dimensions.
Other reports there - rulers, scrollsaw layouts for  my japanese style boxes, etc . Let me know what you think. If you don't like them - delete them. The VB code in some of them is very ugly, but works. I didn't write it for sale. As I get older I keep forgetting things - this acts as my external RAM. Comes handy.

All reports are set to print on A4 paper.
Any problems - let me know. "we have no problems - we have solutions :)"

Good luck

George

What glue are you using on the classic sys labels?  I laminate the labels and use double sided tape, but it doesn't hold too well. Don't want use superglue.

The laminate you are using may hinder the effectiveness of your double sided tape to adhere.  There are different grades of double sided tape too.  You may want to check with your supplier and choose a tape better suited for the surface you are connecting.

I have yet to make and attach new labels to my classic Systainers.  I'd like to keep them from sticking out much, but want them to stick well.  I've been attaching Avery Weatherproof Labels to blank PVC plastic ID cards for my t-loc Systainers. I may try attaching some of those ID cards to the classic Systainers using double stick tape.  If I find a decent double stick tape that will hold without being too thick.

Will post here if I find an acceptable solution.

These are the labels I've made for my systainers, even redid the Festool ones to make them easier to identify when I send my wife to grab one from the shop.

I made the template in power point and if I cut right on the lines, they fit perfectly.

Excellent idea & execution...the standard Festool labels are tough to see and tell apart.  [thumbs up]

That's the reason I went to different colored latches but trying to remember what color equals what tool is also an annoyance.

Here is something I created for my T-Loc Systainer labels. I got some of the PVC plastic ID cards, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005H5W0YM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, which slide perfectly into the slots on the Systainer.  I bought Avery Weatherproof labels, (15513).  The label is the correct height for the ID cards, but needs to be trimmed for the correct length.  I created a PDF to create the labels, allowing you to enter your text, an image for the contents and an image for the brand.

Attached you will find an example of a full sheet of labels, ready for printing and trimming.

And also a copy of the blank form, ready to insert your items.

I just downloaded my tool images and cropped them to where they look good in my PDF.  You can change the image over-and-over until you get it right, then send it to the printer.

I use a color laser and so far, my labels have held up nicely.

Is there a label template for the Mini Systainers? I haven't seen one, but I probably missed it.

These labels are great, thanks for providing them,  I could use a few more I have not seen here, if it is not too much trouble.  With everything being monetized I am surprise you have not set up a month subscription for labels.

Milwaukee 18V Sawzall

Hey. Very cool labels and very pro.

I dont mind sending you a few bucks for the vector file so i can add some of my own tools that are non festool but in systainer boxes.  Im assuming you used illustrator or photo shop?  I would love to use your labels. But also need to customize.  I will post my versions also for others to take advantage of... lmk. Thanks

Does photoshop do vectored graphics? I thought it just "rasterized" everything.

Hi all,

First post here.

Started to make my labels and get organized with Systainers, and have become obsessed.

Here is my first shot; for all my Leigh Dovetail jig accessories. I've also gone as far as to spray paint the T-Loc latch for the Leigh color. It would bother me to have a drawer full of Blue T-Loc latches, and paint has held up.
For Leigh i used Rustoleum Rich Jade (http://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/stops-rust/protective-enamel-spray?ls=312816&lc=Rich%20Jade)

Sanded T-Loc with 240 lightly, 2 light coats of Rustoleum primer, 3 light coats of Rich Jade, 2 light coats of Satin clear coat.

Also made a label for my Kreg K4 Master set.

Thanks for the label help!

Hey Holmz (and everyone),

Got those labels you wanted. Not sure what you meant by "Prep" though?

Also some Veritas ones i have for woodworking hand tools, drywall anchors, fastners, etc.

Thanks!
