I recently made the decision to switch all my Bosch tools from L-boxx to Systainers. The best thing would be to buy an original Bosch systainer, but these are not easily available. So the plan was to buy configurable Tanos systainers in blue, with black handle and red latch. In order to get a more original look i had the idea of 3D printing the Bosch logo, instead of just using a regular sticker. This would make the logo protrude 1mm and appear more like an original case.
In theory all this went really well - until the systainer arrived in "heaven blue" instead of "Sapphire blue"... Since the freight is really expensive i therefore had to find a way to use the heaven blue systainer. I found someone here at the FOG that had made a "weller soldering" systainer with this color, and figured that i could put all my weller soldering tools in this systainer.
So i ordered a 3D print of the weller logo using Shapeways. They use laser sintering, so the finish of the logo was really good. I did however notice that the top side of the letters has really sharp edges, while the bottom side has slightly more rounded corners. Probably due to some polish process or something. The sharp edges on the top side makes the logo appear somewhat "unnatural" when attached to the case. This is really not a big deal, but i think it would look slightly better with the rounded corners on the top side.
I am currently using double sided tape as adhesive, since this was the only practical solution. I was thinking of making plastic studs on the letters and drilling holes in the systainer, but then i would need pretty high precision on the drilling. I could 3D print a template for the drilling as well, but then the cost gets higher. Anyway, i hope the double sided tape will stick, but i do not think this is "rock solid". Any ideas on how to best attach the logo is much appreciated!
All together i think the result came out pretty good, and the Systainer has a more original look this way. I will order a new systainer in "Sapphire blue" and try the same thing for my Bosch angle grinder. If you have any good ideas regarding the fixing, please let me know!
