Greeting & my Blue Sys 2
« on: January 01, 2019, 03:04 PM »
Greetings.
I've lurked here a while, picking up tips and tricks, admiring projects (especially work van ideas) and so on.
A few years ago I picked up a TS55 and MFT. Enjoyed them thoroughly and they've been a great asset running my little woodworking business & hobby. In the last year my business had taken off and I spoiled myself with a few of the limited blue systainer 2s. Had an idea and executed it with some packing foam I saved from a customer (it came with his kitchen lighting)

Hope these pictures come through.
Happy New Years, here's to drinking more green Kool-Aid.

@Stunt  - I agree - looks really good - very professional.
We are using a waterjet to cut the SYSTAINER Foam inserts we sell. For customizing the interior foam layout  for tools by the customer we are adding pre-cut Kaizen Foam pads to fit SYSTAINERs we also sell.

What method did you use to achieve the very clean cuts in the open cell foam in your picture?

Absolutely beautiful work!  You should be proud!

But,  as Hans mentioned in his post - could that be open cell foam?  It sure looks like it might be.  That could absorb moisture from the air and place it next to your beautiful tools?

Thank you Hans and Peter. I tried to add another picture of the foam closer up. Crappy cell phone pic.
It was as I said just some semi rigid foam from a lighting package. It's about 19mm thick and has layers to it. I managed to get 3 layers of foam out of the piece I had.
To cut it I just made a template for a systainer bottom from Lee Valley, and used a standard replaceable blade knife. Some of the smaller holes I used a hobby knife set with various blade tips. It's the green piece in one of the pics.

I might try kaizen foam next Hans but for now need to work on building the green family.
