How to counteract discoloration?
« on: March 17, 2017, 04:46 AM »
Hello!

Please excuse my very post here being a probably stupid question - and worst of all, it is not related to a Festool-systainer but a Makpac... :-)

I recently ordered a Makita-device that was supposed to arrive in a systainer - but somehow the store screwed their online listing up and they just sent me the machine. As a sign of their goodwill, they sent me a Makpac belonging to a different piece of equipment.

Instead of removing the stickers on the systainer with hot air, they chose to use grain alcohol (or "Spiritus" as it called in Germany).

Long story short: The side of the systainer discolored quite a lot.

I am now wondering, if it is possible to still save the box... I tried scrubbing with a coarse kitchen-sponge and I feel like I am able to remove some of the light color and reveal the original color again...

But then, on the other hand, I am not 100% sure if the rubbing-alcohol just created a new layer that that I am just scratching away or if I am removing a whole layer of the box.

Any ideas?

Wet sand and buff. Or think of it as the box is already broken in and ready to work. No need to worry about scratches.

I would put the DX93 delta sander on it.

Welcome to the forum!  [smile]

Try wiping with ABS/PVC pipe cleaner. Should be able to take it own to new color. Do a test spot first.

Maybe one of these would work?  Not sure if you need a membership to access the site...

Best exterior car trim cleaners

They like the Wipe New product.
