Storage/transport box for Kapex 120 EB
« on: June 21, 2017, 12:41 PM »
Apologies if this is a question that's been asked (and answered) already - I can't believe I'm the first person to ask it, but couldn't find another reference to my query.

I have recently purchased a Kapex 120 EB to add to my TS 55. Although I'm delighted with both saws, unlike the TS 55, the Kapex doesn't come with a box or case. I can understand that the size of the saw means a conventional Systainer can't be used, nevertheless I would still like to protect it - during transport, or just when it's in my workshop (which is visited by the occasional mouse). Given that Festool doesn't provide a case for the saw, I have spent some time trying to source an alternative one, but so far haven't been able to find anything large enough. Can anyone please suggest anything that would do the job (and that's available in the uk)? Many thanks.

Why not make one ?  It be a good shop project, and could be custom tailored to the saw.

Thanks antss - yes, that was the conclusion I'd come to, but as I'm pressed for time at the moment, if there's something out there that someone here's found works, then it would be good to know before I make a start  :)

Welcome !
While I'd agree with antss, I've run across used ATA light-duty flight cases like musicians put their amps/gear in on Craigslist pretty cheap used. And new for that size only run a couple hundred bucks.
There are no mistakes....just new designs.

Thanks for the welcome Vondawg, and for the ATA light duty flight case suggestion - I'll see if there's anything like that available.

On eBay here in the uk the other day I saw for sale a genuine kapex transport box which festool sends out to you to package your saw up for transport should it need warranty repair etc I'd imagine in most cases they request this back so not certain how the seller had got one for sale, but basically it was a closable plastic box with a foam insert and straps to hold the saw secure during transport. Might be worth keeping your eyes out for one

Have you got a link that?  I'd like to see what it is like.

Looks like that's possibly Euro crate, like those from Auer - a standard method of dividing-up Euro pallets for shipping. 800 x 600 is the biggest footprint I've ever seen, but I have been told that there is a 1200 x 800 available as well.

Hi
The ebay link shows the same crate we use. Each dealer was given one to aid the transport of the Kapex.....no idea why a dealer would see it off.
