Systainer Color Coded Latches
« on: May 09, 2018, 09:10 AM »
Is there a USA distributor for Tanos Systainer?

I notice I can purchase Systainers from Lee Valley, but they apparently only offer blue T-Loc latches.  I’m wanting various colors to quickly identify the systainer contents (red for medical, orange for Fein Multimaster, etc.).

Yea Woodcraft is just more expensive on this one. Which I typically find to be the case.

By the way, Japan Woodworker, which is owned by Woodcraft and has the same Tanos offerings, occasionally does free shipping.  At least a lot more often than Woodcraft.

Although they will scratch a can of spray paint will cover a whole lot of latches...and cost far less.

I have all of mine color coordinated and it is nice to grab a tool and know which accessory boxes to look for by color. Bought most of my latches from a "lot" off of Ebay though. Otherwise I would just paint the latches. My Systainer's and other mobile tool boxes get beat up as is. Another option is to use one side of the Systainer business card insert and put a colored piece of plastic or paper. Could do the sides too.

Lee Valley is also a Festool dealer. Order $40+ of Festool items and get free shipping.

I went the cheap route!
I popped off the original latches, lightly sanded them and then spray painted with two coats of Rustoleum Ultra Cover 2x Paint/Primer.
Pretty easy to do and quite a savings to boot.

The problem I find with painting your own latches is that if you need 10-15 different colored latches...you also need to purchase 10-15 different colors of spray paint.  [eek]   That’s a lot of spray paint.

And as the latches get scratched, you’ll necessarily want to touch up the damaged latches. This then becomes a never ending do-loop.

Just purchase the factory colored latches you desire and as you use the tools, through normal wear and tear, as the latches get damaged/scratched you’ll never notice the difference because the color is contiguous throughout the latch.

So far so good on the paint holding up.  I am a hobbyist and the latched are not being abused so for me it has worked quite
well.

I chided myself for buying the latches when they were $6.90 a pop.   [unsure]
Woodcraft increased their Tanos SKU's, exponentionally, this past year; and everything went up
in price to compensate (or also to make the sale prices look more appetizing).    Anyway, I understand
that cost on Tanos stuff, worldwide, has gone up.... while more lower cost competitors enter the market.. ??

Ultimate Tools near Vancouver sells the latches, as does Vantainer near London.   They average $10 a pop, everywhere.

Was just looking at Lee Valley’s price and I see $13 each. Woodcraft’s cheaper at $12 apiece.

Did they just increase the price since yesterday?

I'm still seeing 9.70, which is the same it has been for at least the last year.  Are you in Canada?
