Where is the info about printing lables for the "T"
« on: August 18, 2012, 10:41 AM »
I'm wondering where to find the file? info for printing labels for the "T". I would think this would be a sticky.

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks, Peter.

I would ask.... besides asking this question. How would if find that link from the main Festool USA site? Don't get me wrong I like being able as just ask and have you tell me... but I'm a bit old school and would like to have found it myself.  [wink]

From what I'm finding this is to print one..... label on one full sheet of paper?!  Really waste that much paper to get just one label!

From looking at print setting suggestions...seems that the label is 3.6 x 2.4 inch... if that is correct then I can create my own file to print from that is much more adjustable than the PDF file you point to and can print several on one sheet of paper.

Is 3.6 x 2.4 inch the correct size?

Cheers,
Steve

Found the step by step instructions and info on the website. I cannot seem to upload a PDF or JPG to the logo area. If I click on this area, it does not prompt me to add a file. Could this be a platform issue (I have a Mac Book Pro--although I'm obviously not a pro).

I just tried it on my MacBook Pro and was able to do .jpg and .png formats by clicking on the logo area.

It's probably the program you are using to open the PDF.

FWIW I use Macs all the time.

I'm using preview to open the "blanko" file and trying to load a jpg. When I click on the logo area the space simply blinks. Drag and drop did not work. I also used "tab" to toggle between areas. Would love to solve this, maybe I need a preview update.

Thanks for the input.

You need to open with Adobe Acrobat Reader.  See 1. on that page.

Thanks for making this a sticky Peter! Finally motivated me to make labels for my MultiMaster and Hilti Impact. The "logo" window on the generic label does some funky resizing, nothing a little photo shop can't remedy though  [big grin].

Updated to Adobe 9, started from scratch, worked perfectly--my systainer with ECE planes now has a lovely customized label. Life sure is grand.

Thanks Peter et al.

Peter,
Can you please recommend the appropriate paper (and sources)  to print these labels on? I know you have  tons of experience in printing labels from 2 years ago ;)  I assume that this stock already has the right (long lasting) adhesive on it.

Thanks

I'll look when I get home.  I'm assuming you looking so something for the T-loc version?

Yes for T Locs, although media should be the same for any Systainer right?

The labels that I have printed for my Systainers and also for "My Piggies" have held up well and stay stuck in my experience.

If you go to onlinelabels.com you can choose the media type.  My labels are the weatherproof poly laser.  Frankly printing weatherproof on an inkjet is silly.  The label will stay stuck but the ink will run.  But, that is also an option.  For classic systainers I used the OL8250LP which is 8 labels per page and did my layouts in Adobe Illustrator.

The Festool program for the T-Locs does a label image that is 3 3/8" x 2 1/8".  The issue is that you can't really move it around to meet a label template location, so you would have to order full sheet labels and then cut them out.  Lots of waste.

That size is pretty close to a business card and the new T-Locs have a recessed place that allows you to buy a plastic cover and just slip plain paper behind it - like Brice said.

If you want to go the label route I would suggest that you try out printing a test label on paper and then run it thru again and again and again trying the various positioning options available thru Adobe Acrobat Reader.  I think that it is conceivable that you could print between two and 5 per page if you re run your paper thru the printer.

If you order from the link above you can order as little as one sheet but the cost is pretty out there versus purchasing in a slightly greater amount, so check that out.

Sorry I couldn't help more.  I would play around with some stuff but my plate is full and I would have to get permissions etc.

I've been cutting mine from an index card.

I kind of line it up and cut it just a bit too large then gradually trim it down until it fits to my satisfaction.

Obviously this is only useful if you have good handwriting...

Festool (not Festool USA) has made some changes to their website to direct viewers to the correct country.  Unfortunately lots of links will no longer work for those in countries rying to go the the Festool website in another country.

Here is a link to the T-Loc label printing program that will work:  http://www.festool.co.uk/Service/T-LOC-custom-labels/Pages/Create-your-label.aspx

Please do not use the "Preview" on the Macs. It does not properly handle PDF forms and corrupts the form so it might not display or print the added images or text on another system.

If one downloads the latest version of Reader, XI, you will be able to save your custom made label.

These labels were created using Adobe's LiveCycle form creation product and will not work on non-computer devices like the iPad, android tablets, or other mobile devices.

The labels are set for printing on A4 size paper and not U.S. letter size so the label will be slightly smaller because the A4 page size is being shrunk to fit letter size. You could cut a little larger to fit the slot or use the protective cover. If one does not use the auto rotate and center the label will print in the upper left hand corner so one only needs to cut the right side and bottom.

Just found out that there is standard already a plastic label cover in the tloc systainers.
On the left side is a blank slot, for custom labels I pressume, and there is already one plastic cover placed in.
Funny, have these things for quite a while now but never noticed.

Yes they have come with one for a long time. You can also purchase more if you feel you need to cover the insert holders.
