Confused? First use of LS-130 "Do It Yourself" kit

I am using a LS-130 "do it yourself" kit for the first time. The profile is ground and I am to the point of gluing the velcro pad onto the ground profile. The instructions state to use the provided glue and black velcro pad to do this. The kit also includes 2 red Velcro pads however, there is absolutely no mention in the instructions of where/how to use them. It is listed in the contents however, just not the instructions.
So before I commit to glue and the black pad, why wouldn't I just use the red pad which seems to be thinner and more flexible thereby providing finer detail (IMO)?
Any input from experienced users of this kit would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
