Course Description:
We are now calling for entries for a 2-day class focused on the practical application of the Festool Router System.  The class will take place at Festool's Training Center in Henderson, NV (just outside of Las Vegas), and will be primarily geared towards professional applications.

In this class, we will cover the full Festool router lineup, including the MFK 700, OF 1010, OF 1400, and OF 2200, as well as key system accessories such as the MFS, LR32 Hole boring system, and FS Guide rails.  Participants should expect to walk away with a range of broadly applicable skills, with emphasis on panelized doors, circles and arcs, cabinet shelf pins and hinge boring, inlays, fluting, and edge-banding, among others.

Participants will leave with an improved understanding of advanced routing techniques as they apply to trim carpentry, cabinet work, and furniture construction.  Real-world, application-based exercises will enhance the participant's understanding of how to efficiently employ the Festool Router System in the shop and on the jobsite.

Since most of the two days will be spent in the shop actually using the tools, we request that registrants have some previous knowledge of the Festool Router System, and/or the basics of trim carpentry, cabinet or furniture construction.   

Though we expect to add classes geared toward novices in the future, this should be considered an intermediate to expert-level class.

How do I apply and how are participants selected?
If you are interested in participating, please click here to complete this online survey, and provide a few details about yourself.  If you have applied for previous end-user training events, you will need to re-apply for this one.  Attendees are accepted on a first-come basis.

We will notify selected participants (as well as a handful of alternates) by email. The one thing we ask of our selected participants is that you arrive on time and stick around for the full two days.


Travel and Accommodations:
Participants are responsible for all travel and accommodations.  We will be glad to help you make hotel reservations at our preferred local establishment (Sunset Station, Henderson).  And for those participants staying at that hotel, Festool will arrive for pick-up on both days at 7:30am. 

Festool will provide basic refreshments (bagels and coffee) in the morning at our Training Center, and lunch will be provided both days.   There will be an offsite group dinner on the first night.

Vijay, thanks for the feedback on the sign up process. Hopefully, what we're using now will be replaced with something more purpose-built in the near future. We realize that it's not a perfect solution. Sorry if it was problematic.

I love it!  I've been waiting to get the MFS until I need it and I will be patient...but I see it in my future!  I also would really like to take the classes!

I had the fortune of attending this class last week with 3 others. I had signed up in December for this class and it was a long wait, but worth it.

Highlights:

1 Got to use the MFK 700 router, and trim edgebanding, both the hot bonded tape type as well as the thick stuff. You can do this using a 1010 router too with the optional edging plate and the angle arm, but the MFK is really slick.
2. Use the LR 32 system to make holes on 32 mm system, and do hinge boring.  The setup becomes really easy if the panel length is a multiple of 32 mm. Either the 1010 or the 140 router can be used with this system. The big item on setup is to use the linear stop on the guide rail with the 16 marking facing up and away from the rail end for the panel.  And 32 up and away for the door. Doors are smaller than the panel by 2 times the amount of reveal (usually 2 or 3 mm revela per side, making the door 4 to 6 mm smaller than the panel). Much more on this stuff was covered.
3. Use of edge guides with fine adjust to make grooves, slots of a certain distance form the edge of the board.
4. Use of the  MFS system to make rectangular cutouts of any given size. Using a pivot pin and a 30mm template guide (need to buy it separately, a different one for each router) one can make circles, arcs. The router with the template guide fits inside the circle routing insert which can be set at a known distance from the pivot pin using the graduations on the inside edge of the MFS guide rail and the markings on the insert. This allows you to run the router at a fixed distance from the pin.

Steve our instructor was very receptive to questions on the entire Festool system--including my questions on how to repair  on how the repair the 27mm hose, how to set the depth of the TS saws efficiently, how to the set up parallel gudes.  I have some pictures here that illustrate some  of these points and the class in general.  If you ever have an  opportunity to go to one of these  classes--go.  The class is fantastic, as is the Festool hospitality.
