We would like to extend another invitation to end users to attend a new training event.  Below, you will find details about that event.  Please let us know if you have any questions. If you have already completed a survey for one of our previous training events and were not selected, you will need to apply again.

Course Description:
We are calling for entries for a 2-day class focused on the onsite construction and installation of cabinets utilizing the Festool System.    The class will take place at our headquarters in Lebanon, IN, and will be primarily geared towards professional applications.

In this class, we will cover the tools and techniques necessary to build and install shop-quality cabinetry onsite.  Though participants will walk away with a range of broadly applicable skills, the class will concentrate primarily on the construction of a 32mm frameless upper cabinet and a traditional face-frame base cabinet.   From raw material to finished boxes ready for finish, you will learn how to work faster, easier, and smarter with the Festool System.

Since most of the two days will be spent in the shop, actually using the tools, we request that registrants have some previous knowledge of the Festool System, and/or the basics of trim carpentry or cabinet construction.

Though we hope to add classes geared toward novices in the future, this should be considered an intermediate to expert-level class.

Jesse, the plan is to have at least 10-12 of these during 2010 in Indianapolis and Las Vegas.  So, there should be additional opportunities throughout the year.

Appreciate it Shane.

It's just that those with jobs might need the advance time to let their employer know. Those of us that are are self-employed, I would think, like to have work scheduled for more than 3 weeks out. I know I do!

Are you going to make doors and drawers?

Not in this particular class.  Although I believe there are plans to offer a class specifically on door and drawer construction.

Barry,

Shane isn't online right now.  I am sure that he will answer.  But in the meantime here is the description of the class held in December in Indy from another thread:

Quote
Course Description:
We are now calling for entries for a 2-day class focused on the practical application of the Festool Router System.  The class will take place at Festool's Training Center in Lebanon, IN (just NW of Indianapolis), and will be primarily geared towards professional applications.

In this class, we will cover the full Festool router lineup, including the MFK 700, OF 1010, OF 1400, and OF 2200, as well as key system accessories such as the MFS, LR32 Hole boring system, and FS Guide rails.  Participants should expect to walk away with a range of broadly applicable skills, with emphasis on panelized doors, circles and arcs, cabinet shelf pins and hinge boring, inlays, fluting, and edge-banding, among others.

Participants will leave with an improved understanding of advanced routing techniques as they apply to trim carpentry, cabinet work, and furniture construction.  Real-world, application-based exercises will enhance the participant's understanding of how to efficiently employ the Festool Router System in the shop and on the jobsite.

Since most of the two days will be spent in the shop actually using the tools, we request that registrants have some previous knowledge of the Festool Router System, and/or the basics of trim carpentry, cabinet or furniture construction.

Though we expect to add classes geared toward novices in the future, this should be considered an intermediate to expert-level class.

What will I learn?

Precision in shop and on jobsite with Festool Routers
MFK 700 Trim router - Precision and flexibility
OF 1010 Plunge Router - Small in size, big on performance
OF 1400 Plunge Router - Our most versatile router
OF 2200 Plunge Router - A portable shaper

Enhanced efficiency with Festool System Components
Arcs, circles and raised panels with the Festool MFS system
Efficient cabinet construction with the LR 32 Hole boring system
Boring of hinge plates and shelf pins on cabinet sides
35 mm Hinge boring on cabinet doors
Routing fluted columns with the Festool parallel guide
Clean and efficient edge banding with the MFK 700 and OF1010 plate systems
Routing grooves and slots with the OF 2200 and Plexiglas template
Precision routing with FS guide rails
Precision inlays with Festool Routers

I wasn't trying to be Shane  Scared, just wanted to get you a partial answer quickly.

Just as Peter listed, that was the curriculum for the first advanced router class.  I suspect any subsequent classes will have the same material covered.

Hi: I am brand spanking new to FOG and Festool. Although I have been doing this pretty much all my life, I finally reached the point of taking the Festool plunge. I would love to take a few classes on the tools, as I have always been big on learning from pros. My only squawk with Festool is getting competent training. They offer a class for 5-6 and 200+ apply. How about taping the classes and offering videos for purchase? I am sure that I am number 1 million on that unique suggestion. Love to hear from anyone who has any info on learning how to maximize the use of Festools, classes, video or books. Thanks! Love the site...

Arte, welcome to the forum.  We certainly hope to hear more from you in the future.

Currently, the end user training program is still in its infancy.  We may, at some point, produce videos from the training sessions that would be made available to our customers.  We certainly understand the important and the demand for more video content.

While video of the complete training sessions are not something currently in the works, we will begin releasing a lot of new video content in the coming months that will be educational and informational.  Thanks for the feedback.

Arte,

First,  Welcome! to the FOG.  We are happy that you joined us.  You suggestion about producing videos FOR SALE is one that I don't remember being brought up before.  But then there are those who have referred to me as old.  Scared

All of us are here to help give advice and guidance.  Many exciting things happening - quickly.  In August / Sept. there was a class for participants to get general training and an in depth introduction to the whole system.  Since then two classes curriculums have been established and several classes have been held.  We now - within the last couple of days have a channel at YouTube to serve as a place for videos from Festool and also member contributors.  Who knows where this will go?  I've heard some stuff and am excited, but I haven't heard details and I'm not allowed to talk about what I've heard.

This community was formed to be a resource for people just like you who wanted to learn about the tools and their operation.  If you let us know what tools you have, or what you are interested in learning about, many here can either give advice or provide you with avenues to enhance your knowledge.  All you have to do is ask.

Peter

Shane & Peter:
Thanks for the quick feedback!
Great to hear that their may be a few more learning avenues available in the future, and I will check out U Tube.

I recently purchased DF 500 Q, TS 75 EQ, CT 33 E, OF 1400 EQ. The Domino is the only tool I have not used yet, and only from fear of messing up my customers project. This is the tool I would love to get in on some serious training. I read the manuals, the one supplied by Festool and a few on-line, and I guess I am from Missouri - just show me (no slight intended to Missourians). For now, I guess I will get some scrap and play around...

Thanks again guys....

Arte,

I forgot to give the link for You Tube.  It is www.festool.tv  I found that scrap material and the domino do go together especially just to get used to plunging speed and sounds.

Maybe we can get someone to put a video together giving some tips.  I admit I haven't watched most of the videos out there.

Well, I think we had a few guys that couldn't come because of the bad weather in the North East, but here's a photo of our attendees for the end user training class this week in Indianapolis.  I'll allow the attendees to identify themselves in the photo if they choose.

I would like to take a moment to thank the Festool staff for putting on this course.

Minnie did a great job at keeping us to well fed.

Christian was there, he made every one of us feel welcome, he joined us for dinner and a couple of  Q&A's, also a "friendly" game(s) of Foosball.

Mark and Steve put on a well organized class.

What I toke away from this the most was the method by which you calibrate the various tools to work together. I had never used the LR 32 prior to today and from the pictures I was a little baffled by the parts. Now that I have used it, it truly is a wonderful set up. I am glad that I have the pin style Domino, having an opportunity to use the paddle type, I'll stick with my pins. The RAS was demonstrated, very impressive. Very tempted to get the MFK 700 after this, very nice unit.

I am always reminded every time I see a picture of myself why they should not be taken. Thanks Shane!!!!!!!!!

I am wearing the Fein shirt.

To the other members of the class, it was my pleasure to have meet you.

Tom
