Kreg beaded faceframe thingy with the CMS?
« on: April 22, 2014, 10:03 AM »
I was given the Kreg beaded faceframe kit as a gift, but it was designed to work in a t-slot on the router table.

The CMS doesn't have a t-slot, has anyone come up with a way to use these two together?

I don't have the Kreg beading kit, but I do have a CMS.  I would imagine that you could make a plate that would hold the part behind the fence to the bolt holes on the table that hold the CMS fence.  I take it you have the freestanding CMS?  You might also be able to use the extrusions around the side to join the two parts.

I have done beaded frames with the CMS before, but just used a chamfer bit to cut through the frames and then a beading bit to get the bead.  I had to do a little setup to do this but it worked fine.  Brice Burell has a video about it with the CMS:

I'd like to see a solution too.  I'm interested in both the CMS and the kreg beading system.  Brice's solution while creative, seems tedious and prone to user error.

I don't have, nor do I plan on purchasing the Kreg setup, but with my CMS and Incra LS, I am sure I could "replicate" the effort.  Seems to me other than the stops that you have with the Kreg (to match the bit), the real advantage is that the Kreg fence cranks forward and backward with the large handle.  I can replicate that with the LS Positioner and/or right angle fence and even the CMS sliding fence.

As for a solution... I think for CMS-GE owners, if you have the ability to use the angled extrusions along the back, you would be able to do it.  For VL owners, you can use the MFT itself.

Cheers.  Bryan.

I do not have a CMS, but I do have a Kreg Face Frame jig. All you would need to do is drill 2 holes in the CMS
top & bolt the Kreg jig directly to the top. The jig base is not moved once it is mounted.

Have you tried beading after you've cut the mitres? It's easier to see marks and it removes tear out.

Yes, that is the method I have used before.  You are correct, much easier to see everything.  Made a pencil mark on where to stop (and start) the 45 deg chamfer cut through and then i used the bead bit to run along after.  Worked quite well in my instance.

Yes, I can see that being the cleanest solution.        Thanks!

Will report here how it works out.
