New locking dust port compatability
« on: March 26, 2017, 01:16 PM »
Someone's probably covered this already, but I can't seem to find it through search, so will just pose it again...

Is there a way of making the new cleantec locking dust collection fitting on the hose compatible with tools that still have an integral dust port, like RAS or the 1010 router?  It's not as flexible as the older rubber hose fitting, and I was having difficulty getting it to mate with those tools, and so if there's not that compatibility it's not really worth it for me to replace the hose end.

Good question.  I purchased a new sander with the CleanTec connector and hose end.  Tried it but am seriously debating going back to the old style.  I find it does not seal as well.  Further, with my cleaning accessories, I lose suction because it will not fully adapt into the metal pipes of the workshop cleaning set or even the plastic tools.

I think I am going to go back to the old end.

I wonder if any of the dealers will come up with a pigtail - essentially the older port on one end of a short hose and a locking adapter on the other.  I know Bob Marino sells 2' adapters for going from 36mm hose to the smaller ports on the 1010 router, for example.

There are replacement CleanTec parts available from Festool on some of their tools, including those with metal ports, but I have not read about one for the metal adapters like on the 1010.

Because I use the RS 2, DX 93 and 1010 often, I switched back to the original hose end. The new one is just too difficult to fit on the oval dust port.

The legacy hose ends fit the new locking ports, just takes some coaxing.

@bnaboatbuilder
@Edward A Reno III

Unless I misread the original post, I think his problem is getting the new locking hose end to connect to the legacy oval machine port, as found on the older machines (my RS2E, or his 1010 for instance).

@Cheese probably did a better job of explaining the problem than I just did.....

I think new hose ends are just more difficult to fit around, or into dust ports in general - whether the are the new cleantec or the old style.

Takes a while for mine to become supple enough to easily engage.

I'm certainly no fan of the new fitting.

I wonder if Festool will continue to make the old style hose connectors available?

Let's hope so...otherwise I'll be purchasing several original hose ends as backup.

Me too !

Are you listening @Tyler C 's bosses ?

While it's only three of us in a couple of days that prefer the older fittings - I have yet to see a post where guys jumped in and said :  "well done - cleantec is the best thing since the Doimino".    There are even a couple that have experienced performance decline with cleantec.

Looks like I will be sticking with the older hose fitting.

I have not found this to be an issue on my 1010 after 2-3 times putting it on. It seems like it stretched a little. Maybe it's just how I slip it on but I don't find it too much trouble. Just my two cents.
