I install aluminium doors and of course they can get light scratches while fitting. Does anyone know if it's possible to polish light scratches out powdercoated aluminium ? Would one of the finishing compounds be any good and using a ro90 with sheepskin cover be any use ?

So you really mean powder coated or anodized aluminum?

If really powdercoat, you can using some rubbing compound on it. BUT... since it usually has no primer or topcoat, it is going to run down to bare metal very quickly, so do it by hand.

If it's anodized, find a sharpie that matches and hit the scratches and don't look at it closely anymore.

It all depends upon how deep those scratches are. If they are just surface scratches they can be buffed out in a normal fashion.

If they are down to the base material or down to the primer...not so much.

FWIW...when powder coating parts, priming the part first is optional and usually involves an additional charge to cover the cost of changing the gun contents from a primer coat to a top coat.

Some powder coaters swear by priming while others swear at priming. However they all agree to charge extra for priming. Unless asked, most powder coaters will NOT prime the article. This needs to be a specific request from the customer.   [sad]
