Am I Mad - Thoughts Please
« on: August 20, 2018, 03:57 PM »
Newbie question time so apologies if it’s been answered but I tried searching to no avail. I am setting up my small workshop and plan to do the following but would appreciate anyone’s thoughts/suggestions.

I plan to attach a ‘Y connector’ to my CTM 26, and then attach two Planex ‘slides’ and run two 36mm hoses from that too my Kapex 60 and TS55. I want a single power solution so I am looking to attach the following - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004I5BQ42/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
to the CTM to avoid having to swap plugs around - I do wonder though if I will overload one or all of the devices. I only plan to operate one at a time.

Many thanks

Vince

I have been using a triple tap on mine for a long time without any issues...other than forgetting to switch the hose over. DOH! Really want to set up an automatic gate system.

USA so 110Volt, but I am sure you can get something similar.

You can do that, unless you operate both under load it shouldn't be a problem.

Only thing you might run into is that the suction will reduce with both hoses open, adding gates is a sensible approach to combat that problem but gives the issue that you'll have to operate something extra when picking up one of the tools - or forget to do that and stand in a dust cloud...

Thanks guys. I may position the Y piece in a central location at table height so the slide gates are close to hand rather than having to bend down each time (not that this is an issue in a small space)

Hi Vince

With "Y" connectors there is always a risk of overloading the CT26 but if you are a one man band then that is unlikely unless you can operate your Kapex whilst doing Domino work !

I had fitted the second socket in my CT26 thus giving me two sockets at the front and both do the auto startup thing with the CT when a tool is switched on. I bought mine from Toolfest a while ago. I have forgotten the part number but Warren at Toolfest will know what it is.

It sounds as though you might benefit from something like my Dusthub - I will send you the plans shortly.

Cheers Peter, I may well look at creating the dust hub as ideally I would like 3 hoses connected and I have yet to see a viable 3 way port that connects directly onto the CTM. Thanks for the plans.

I plan to use the second port on the CTM for Bluetooth on the 3rd hose. That way I can use that for existing hand tools and also workshop clean up.

That's the solution I eventually opted for, and it also helped cut down on the cord accidentally coming out of the CT socket, which it sometimes did during operations where there was a lot of shifting around.

Hi Vince

Yes, I now have the Bluetooth module in the place where that second socket went and it is a real boon, especially when doing a cleanup.

The Dust Hub does provide the extra sockets and as those are right up with the blast gates it does help to get the discipline of opening and closing gates and turning power on and off to a connected tool.

Good luck.

Here is another option for a manifold. I wish Fastcap would get onboard with one like their proto type.

Why purchase and install a second socket? I use an outlet splitter in my CT which as far as I can see performs the same function. But my solution costs a whole lot less.  [smile]

Looks like your rabbit joint is a hare off! ;)
