90% of my work is small projects done on-site. After hassling with the cord and extractor hose hanging up on the table and the guide rail I took drastic action.

Scrap piece of 2x6, drill a 1/4 inch hole, press in the hose holder (it's snug enough to not fall out but still rotates easily), quick clamp the thing to my bench and feed the vac hose and cord through it and I was good to go.

It's not pretty and it's not slick but it does work for a quick and dirty and inexpensive solution for on-site work.

If you have tried the deflector, do you like your way better?

Les - I do have the deflector and generally use it, but if the hose is below table height it still has a tendency to get hung up. The boom arm gets the hose and cord above the table and that's what I decided I needed to accomplish but in a way that was quick and easy to set up/take down and not take up much room in my van.

Les,

The guide rail deflector definitely does not take the place of a boom-arm or facsimile.  If power and vac hose are more or less directly behind the cut, the deflector helps keep them from hanging up on the edges of the guide rail.  But if one or both of them is not quite directly behind the cut, the deflector is not very effective.
