CMT Domino cutters
« on: April 22, 2016, 07:30 PM »
I just noticed that CMT makes cutters for both the Domino machines, which come in at a little more than half the price of Festool cutters.  Anyone try these?

Ed:
I bought two for a 700 a few months ago, but unfortunately haven't tried them yet. I certainly can't tell the difference between the CMT and the Festool bit from looking at them, except for the markings on the bits themselves.  There was a previous thread on here a year or so ago with a little more info from users who provided info that pointed me in the CMT direction.

I've used them in various sizes extensively. After nearly 500 domino cuts, I find that they cut just as cleanly as the Festool ones. No regrets whatsoever in my purchases, and I've saved considerably buying the CMT cutters vs the original ones.

I agree on the cmt domino bits, I only buy the Festool bits if I am in a bind and need a replacement ASAP.

They also do a collet extension for routers that is a very attractive price, their bits for the Mafell Duo Doweler are worth looking at if you have the machine. If anyone wants a price in the UK let me know.

That is good to know as I just got a 700 and need a few more bits. I did buy the Seneca adaptor and it works great. Best of both worlds.

Bump.....

@Drich hows that seneca adapter working out - any issues? Any problem with the mechanics the 700, there have been some recent postings that there may be an issue with the adapter and the gearbox.

Thanks

It worked out fine for me. I did end up selling it and going with the 500 as it was just to big for the 3/4 inch work I was mostly doing.

Since this thread got bumped I would just note some dissatisfaction I have with the D10 CMT cutter for the Domino XL.  It cuts the mortises a hair larger than the Festool D10 cutter on my DF500.  Not enough to make it useless, but definitely noticeable.
