Domino Jig Video
« on: April 20, 2017, 11:18 AM »
Not my video, but I happened to see this and thought it was one of the cooler things I've seen someone do to modify the operation of the Domino. I do wish there was something like this offered by Festool.

Safety note: Keep your fingers away from sharp spinny things.  [big grin]

Very cool. I'd love to see the rest of the setup.

I came across this "Plate Joiner Table" in Shopnotes #33 that is very similar.

I had to go dig up issue 33 just to see. yes, appears to be very similar.

Nick James from @jamesdesign on Twitter has a great jig that has evolved through a few generations. A little more of the mechanism on show in this one...

See it at https://twitter.com/jamesdesign/status/852194304835670016

Dantes, welcome to FOG!  Thanks for logging on and sharing details with us.  Now I really want a project with 5,000 domino mortises lol.

I thought it's Dantes' (at least the YT account Shane linked is his).  Nick James' jig uses a lever arm to push the Domino.  Dantes' appears to use a foot pedal controlled pneumatic cylinder.

Yes, different people/jigs altogether. Similar principle executed differently.

These are great, now if any of them have drawings on how to build them I'd definitely take the time for it. I'll check out everything entirely later today

The approach laid out in SN33 is pretty simple: just a foot pedal and a pivot arm. See attachment. I prefer the foot pedal approach as it frees the hands, but the hand-pulling method is easier to build.

Thanks for the pictures, Dantes. One question: How do you attach the joiner/baseplate to the table?

Looks like it's probably attached to the metal plate using the attachment points for the support foot.

Thanks. I just remembered the threaded holes on the base after I posted my question. But it was nice to see your pictures and your measurements that I can simply copy to save my time in figuring them out.

[jawdrop] This is really brilliant! Thank you all for sharing! [thumbs up]

...I need to bookmark this, to copy the approach, when I finally get a room to setup some sort of stationary shop in.
