Thanks.  The chain vise is an interesting idea.

The more I learn about building log furniture the more I find that you have to invent the tools you need.  An interesting challenge

That’s the reason I find it interesting that on the surface, it seems that woodworking tooling and metal tooling are really unrelated...yet on a macro/micro’s only the material that’s really different.

FIW - interesting crossover between this discussion and another elsewhere on this forum which has most recently expanded to examine the multiple uses of German-made drill stands produced by Wabeco (like using them in conjunction with a Vecturo or Fein MM):
