Title: >8ft. repeat cuts on the UG Kapex cart
Post by: ear3 on March 14, 2019, 10:40 PM
It ain't pretty, but it was 10 minutes well-spent to rig up this extension out of some scrap so I could consistently cut about 60 90 2x4s at 117".  Used some extra 6mm thumb screws and square nuts to hook into the t-track on the back of the sliding extrusion of the UG wing.  It helped as well to support the fully-extended extrusion with another makeshift 2x4 leg, so that the extra weight of the wooden jig didn't deflect too far towards the floor.

Since 2x4s are not especially straight, and the end is 3-1/2” long at various angles to the overall length, I’d minimize the +- error by using a small stop that only hit the center of the end of the stick.

This doesn’t seem like a proper task for a history prof. Making another film set?

What are you making that needs to be so precise?  Might it be easier and less time-consuming to just gang-cut them from the bundle in the future?   [unsure]
