You did a fantastic job mirock.  Maybe you send in your design to Festool to see if they have any interest in implementing it on future router updates.

It is great work, but "rainbows and unicorns" type of thought to believe that FT HQ wants to hear from Mirock.
You do realise that they own the forum?
If they want to "receive prayers", they have a clear channel.
He would look like "a loon" approaching them.

The obvious manufacturing and marketing solution is a new router with LEDs installed.

In my ideal world it would be a kit as I mentioned in the locked down loyalty post.
I doubt FT want to supply a kit that anyone can learn electrocution skill with - in their home?
As a dream it is nice, but it would be some kit that may or may not invalidate the tools warranty.

I like the work, and the concept a lot.

It’s too bad.  Not many routers have LED lights.  It would be nice if Festool decided to add them.

Well, things are brightening up for sure. :)

My large Bosch router has LED and since I often make custom acrylic bases and with the LED it works really well and I can monitor the progress through the base. Did some Corian edge routing the other day with a critical entry/exit and a large 60 degree bevel cutter and the LED really saved the day.

Also, that nice little Makita 18V router has LED. :)
Festool:  CS 50EB precisio set, Domino DF500, DF XL 700, OFK500 edge router, OF1010 router EHL65 planer, CTL Mini/Midi Vac, CTL 26 vac MFT800+1080 tables
DSC-AG Grinder,  RAS 115
Rotex 150, ETS EC 150/5 RTS400
Drills: T18, BHC18, CXS.
SysLite KAL II, SYS Rock.
Sys- and Sortainers galore.

Line up has been reduced with the introduction of Mafell/Metabo tools. Red Green and Blue do mix well in the shop.

I think Festool believe they address the issue with their new portable work light.  With so many of their competitors adding LED lights to their routers in model refreshes, it’s long overdue that Festool finally did a model refresh for it’s router line-up.

There’s no need to redesign anything.  A simple refresh with some refinements in their router line-up would be nice to see.

I came across this the other day. A clear acrylic router base with built-in LED's and laser cross hairs from MLCS. Light output seems just ok.

I really like the design of the Micro Fence router base ring lights. They seem to put out a lot of light. It seems to be pretty straight forward for Festool (or someone else) to adapt/develop.

Yes, I am hoping Festool would come to this conclusion. LED lights are definitely helping out routing tasks when properly implemented. I am hoping Festool has learnt from the LED debacle with their drill line up - back in the days they were actually among the _last_ to implement LED in the drills, and they are certainly still not the best. I remember the "stop gap" solution with the clip on LED - with on board battery - which would not fit with the drill chuck attached...

The routers are great, adding a LED should not be too hard for them. Love the LED on my Bosch and my Makita routers. We have good light in the workshop but sometimes you block the light with your person so the on board LED really helps out.

I wouldn’t think a clip on solution would be a very good idea with a router.  I can’t imagine it would be easy to keep a removalble light in place while doing deep plunges.

The router line-up should be receiving minor refreshes ever 4-5 years.

Given Festool engineering resources, incorporating LED lighting on their current router platform is really a relatively easy task. Using current LED technology, you are no longer tasked with populating hundreds of individual 5mm LED's on an aluminum heat sink to achieve the lighting intensity you need. It's now as simple as incorporating only 4-5 solid state 5630 LED's on a circuit board.

So the LED circuit board is offered for sale for $70 through Festool however it is not available for installation unless it's through a Festool authorized service center which performs the installation for $30.

So for $100 who would sign up for this mod and who would not?

I'm betting this could be a big money maker for Festool.
