I use a lot of 80/20 type extrusions for shop fixtures/jigs, I just found a great source and thought I would pass it along. The company is Misumi and they offer cut-to-length extrusions for less $$ than I can get 80/20 on eBay. The profiles I most commonly use are 40mm or 1-1/2", both fit the Festool clamps. Misumi's part number for the 40mm light profile (similar to 80/20 4040-LS) is HSFL8, their cost is +/- $3.90/foot cut to length. 4' of 80/20 4040-LS sells for $26 on eBay, and you have to cut it yourself. They also have a great search tool for all their extrusions and compatible hardware at: http://www.misumiusa.com/CategoryImages/AluminumExtrusions/Extrusion-Browser.htmlRMW

RMW;
I was just looking for this type of product. I have seen systainer carts made from extrusions and thought able trying to build my own. Unfortunately, the samples I saw were from Festool Owners from across the pond. Thanks!

What are the thoughts on KAPEX for cutting with the right blade?

Kev, I cut this stuff with a Freud blade in my metal chop saw at 1,500 RPM, no issues. Not sure the RPM on the Kapex, my blade is : "Freud D1296N Diablo 12-Inch 96 Tooth TCG Non-Ferrous Metal and Plastic Cutting Miter Saw" Comments on Amazon indicate that others are using this blade in wood-cutting saws with good results. I've cut a fair amount of aluminum and other non-ferrous metals with the Kapex. I've had no problems cutting profiles with walls up to 1/8" (3mm) with the Festool non-ferrous metals blade.

You can get very accurate cuts in aluminum with a Kapex and the Aluminum/Plastic blade. I have a customer that uses one to miter extrusions for large home theater screens. It makes a nice, tight miter. Tom

( or am I switching around some letters....does HSFL8 = HFSL8 ?) I price this at about $ 17.00 per meter (approx. 3 feet) precut + shipping from Indiana On 06/17/2012....Happy Fathers Day.

The HFSL8 looks to be their 40mm light extrusion, similar to the 80/20 40-4040 Lite. I purchased all my stuff off eBay and only recently found Misumi but their prices do look cheaper. [ ERROR: SPECIFIED ATTACHMENT MISSING ] [ ERROR: SPECIFIED ATTACHMENT MISSING ] I did just notice that the Misumi profile has a wider slot, 10mm versus 8mm+ on the 80/20. If you are using the Festool Clamps you should double check them before ordering the Misumi profile, 10mm may be a bit too wide for the clamp. I know the 80/20 40-4040 works great with the Festool clamps. RMW

Does anyone know where in the USA I might find an extrusion (and which model number) that will fit clamps in a groove in addition to the V groove that you can clamp things like the kapex extensions to that the MFT3 has?
I'm looking to build a custom longer table for the shop and keep my mobile MFT3 in my trunk.
Want the exact same functionality in the shop but bigger...wanting a SINGLE piece instead of two MFT's...
Does anyone make the exact same extrusion custom length?
Christopher

If some of you guys know what you need, I would not have a problem going on a little drive to get what was needed.

just out of curiosity, does anybody know what size extrusion you would need for the guide rail supports that go on the mft/3 or any of the other accessories for that matter? I have never actually put my hands on one or even seen it in person so it may be the same as the clamps?
