Check out the short video review from @erock, too. Eric is not a paid representative of Tool Nut and was not compensated for this video.

Hello Shane,

How about a similar deal with Star drive screws?

Hi Shane, I have a dumb newbie question... which screws would you recommend for installing drawer slides?  They will be attached to 3/4" plywood.  I just ordered a bunch of drawer slides but I have no screws for them.  So if you have a recommendation, that would be awesome so I can order my six boxes of screws.  [big grin]

What kind of drawer slides? Different kinds of slides take different kinds of screws.

@SilviaS7, well, currently we don't have a good option for that. The shortest screws we currently offer are 3/4". However, we do plan to continue to expand our selection to include more specialty screws. Euro screws and drawer slides screws are among those future additions. I'll keep you posted.

@jacko9, right now we're offering the discounts on the Tool Nut brand screws, which are combo and square drive. Always possible we'll do something similar with the GRK star drives in the future.

I can vouch for these. Shane isn't going to compare their stuff with another manufacturer, but I can. I was a Fastenal user, mainly because I had a hook-up who could get me their square drive screws at almost nothing. These are a comparable option, and they can be a little bit cheaper depending on the size. With the discount and free shipping, they are a decent bit less.

They can self-tap, it's hard to get the bit to come out and round the socket, and they look good left exposed. Like Eric, I need them to offer shorter sizes, but I can get by with other solutions for now. I used to be a big Spax user, but found that even with the star drive I could easily round the bits and sockets of the screw. Harder to do with square drive, IMO.

I'll second the request for torx screws. No more Phillips, and square drive are also a pita. Wish someone was selling torx pocket screws!

I'll give a quick mini-review as well:  I purchased several boxes (various lengths) of the #8 dry lube furniture screws back in August.  They stay on the R2 bit well and drove cleanly into the red oak.  My test was with a pre-drilled hole in solid red oak stretcher and driven into non-predrilled solid red oak leg.  Held well and was able to tighten up with no splitting.

Very pleased and will purchase again in the future.

Regards,
Gerald

Wait, that certainly exists. First hit in Google:

(Of course it would be even better if Shane sold these, but I digress, as I'm in Europe for starters)

After seeing the Torx pocket screws in the Amazon link above, I am very leery of the screw quality.  Take a look at the poorly formed threads with voids in the root and crown.  No thanks, I will pass on them.

This! Not all screws are created equally. Our screws meet strict specs and go through torque testing. If you're relying on a fastener for structural integrity, make sure you choose one that's high quality.

I like the European type screws for drawer slides they seem to hold much better than # 6 or #8 screws;

LOL I wasn't endorsing those specific screws, but merely showing -with the first Google hit- that Torx pockethole screws do in fact exist.

I've used the GRK washer head cabinet screws in pocket holes occasionally. They work pretty well though I think the head diameter is slightly larger than Kreg screws, so they may be best for something that isn't seen.
The large bearing surface on the head, and self-drilling are the important feature of screws used in pocket hole joinery.
