« on: November 22, 2016, 05:13 PM »
For you guys who appreciate the Systainer system, here are two new compressors coming from Cadex that will be in Systainers. The 1HP model will feature 1.9CFM at 90PSI and come in a SYS 3, available in February 2017. The 1½HP model will have 3.8CFM at 90PSI and come in a SYS 4, available in Spring 2017. You can pre-order the Cadex Systainer Compressors now from The Tool Nut.

Neat.  How does the noise level compare to the Rolair JC-10 compressor?

This will sound nitpicky, but for what those cost $499 and $639, I hope the production units show a little more effort, the air vent grilles were hand drilled by a less than skilled person. Wonky and random holes drilled on those 2 grilles shown. Adhesive or caulk around the right air gauge. I know all this has no effect on the performance, but price and attention to detail not fully in sync. So what do the insides look like?

Yes, and will the 1-1/2 hp run on a 15 amp circuit without tripping the breaker?
Low amp draw motor?

Prices are steep, so want to know more about the build quality.

I've busted so many Systainers I'm not sure I could even consider paying this much for something that lives inside a heavily customized one I couldn't replace easily. They just aren't that durable.

@Steve Rowe, the JC10 is 62db and this unit is 68db, so very similar.

So what do the insides look like?

@bnaboatbuilder, I'm pretty sure this is a pre-production model. So, there will likely be some minor changes and refinements. Adding a photo of the inside below.

Db is a logarithmic scale so roughly speaking at these levels a 10db difference makes the noise level double. Difference between 62 and 68 should be seen in this context.

True, it is logarithmic. But, at lower levels, the curve is more flat, so the change is less drastic. It's 6dB more than the JC10. An increase of 3 dB is barely perceptible to the human ear.

For more context, 60-70db is the level of a normal conversation or soft music. I think the video shows the sound level pretty well.

@Samo, got a response from Cadex. They say that both models will run on a 15A circuit without issues.

To add some new info, the SYS3 will have a ½-gallon tank and the SYS4 will have a 1½-gallon tank capacity.

Confirmed, the photos are of a pre-production model that was made just for demo at STAFDA.

Jamie from Cadex here. The new compressor in Systainer case will be here in February and will be slightly different than the one pictured. It will have a grey lid and different gauges on it plus a lighted switch. These units are very quiet and the quality is very high. Duty cycle is 60% rather than 40% or less that is seen on most units in the construction field. The compressor may be used at at 100% duty cycle for up to 3 hours. There is virtually no vibration as the pumps and motors are balanced so as to eliminate this.

For the record I am ready for this now.  After loading and unloading my van, including my 40+ pound awkward to carry jc10, ten times in the last three days I am really looking forward to something that fits into the systainer system.

@CadexJamie Tagging Jamie so he sees everyone's questions.

Also, here's another video (with Jamie) talking about this new compressor. Thanks for the orders so far. If you pre-order, we will not charge your card until it ships.

The compressors from Cadex in Systainer cases will be available in Canada. We will make a 220 volt version in 50 Hz for overseas markets. This one will be ready in March 2017. Currently most of the first order are sold. Toolnut.com still has availability for delivery in February.

Does that mean you'll actually be able to deliver all of the pre orders in March that Shane takes ?

Just a thought to ponder: It is interesting that Cadex can figure out a way to get a compressor in a systainer to North America but Festool can't figure a way to get a vacuum pump in a systainer to North America.

I think it's more a question of economics Steve.

Cadex pretty much has a potential customer for everyone that buys one of their nailers and will likely sell a lot of these things to non Festool customers as well as their own nail gun buyers.

Festool Vac SYS has got to be a low volume item and is not really applicable across the entire product line.  I wouldn't use one if you gave it to me for any operation we bill customers for.  I'll wager the amount of non Festool customers that buy a vac sys is pretty close to none.

So, given the UL approval process and cost it's most likely FT feels it's not worth it given sales numbers.

@DashZero

The latest information that I got from Cadex was that they were expected to be available some time in mid-to-late May. However, the launch date has been changed a few times, so we temporarily stopped taking orders for them until we had a solid date for our customers.

Perhaps you could get Jamie to return and talk about what the production model actually has in terms of features and looks ?

That is if it's actually in production.  [unsure].

First it was Feb. then March. Now it's late May which I'm sure means June. I understand manufacturing ; and that targets move. But , to be off by two quarters usually means there's a problem with the design - or - marketing sold everyone a bill of goods.
