Ooo, not sure how I missed this. Where do we send it to? I was wishing for something like this when I first saw the new versions. They should be available tomorrow!
on a related note: We've been considering offering an 'anodizing and engraving' trade-in program for people who ordered the original Domiplate that was just bare aluminum with no engraving. Since the engraving makes it easier to identify which side of the plate is for which size of ply, we believe this would be helpful to people. Here's the deal: Send us your old plate and $20, we'll return it anodized and engraved (we can't add the captive screws due to differences in the plates - ). This service would only be available to customers in the US, because the cost of shipping both ways plus customs fees wouldn't make it an economical choice for those overseas.
Does that sound appealing to anyone?

I know you said you'll start a new thread, but just out of initial curiosity, how long would the process take to return & have our old Domiplate anodized? It is very appealing to me but considerable downtime may change my decision as it is a want and not a need!
Thanks!

Bob, we are going to set this up as an exchange program, so the turnaround will be very quick; we'll ship the replacement plate out the day after we receive the one you want to exchange. I'm going to email the details to everyone who bought the old-style Domiplate once I compile a list. (I decided that would be a more direct method of accessing the limited number of people who this service actually applies to). If you're interested, send me an email and I'll send you the details. info@senecawoodworking.com.

However, I'm still curious to what it would cost to have it done.

Based on Ry's most recent post it seems like the replacement will have the captive screws since he's talking about a swap-out so maybe the $20 price will have to be revised?

That's great! I was just using my old-school domiplate yesterday and looking at the pencil marked sides while grumbling to myself about how nice the new ones looks. Would definitely like the newer one.

A note for international orders (especially German). This last order took 7 weeks to ship (April 24.- June 12.) So please be patient and give it some time! I've had similar experience with other shippments, although 7 weeks is a new record. Obviously these packages get stuck in customs quite often! So be patient before you take Ryan or Ron's offer to send a new one! The only way to speed shipping up (to Germany) is if the value is less than 27 US$ (22 EUR) or if it's a present up to 56 US$ (45 EUR). Unfortunately they add shipping cost on top of the value! Maybe! Domiplate presents for everyone!!! Any by the way, the new "Black Edition Domiplate" is really cool!

To answer Brice and Michael's questions, here are the details of the exchange program. http://www.senecawoodworking.com/products/domiplate-exchange-programSince people like the look of the anodized Domiplate, and the laser engraving eliminates confusion on which side of the plate corresponds to which size of ply, we set up an exchange program. We made this an "exchange" program because it's faster and easier to get the plates back to our customers - otherwise the turnaround time would be close to a month while sent each customer's plate out for anodizing and engraving. Here's what's going on from our end: I have a supply of old-style Domiplates (without the captive screws) that have been anodized and engraved and I'm using that to 'seed' the program, but after that supply is gone we'll be anodizing and engraving the plates people send us in exchange. That's why the Domiplate you send us needs to be in good condition or we can't exchange it. We'll run each plate through a quality check to make sure it isn't damaged or bent (think "Certified Pre-Owned Lexus" ...but with woodworking tools ;-) It would just be too inefficient to try and send plates one at a time to the anodizer and engraver, or too difficult to track whose plate is whose if we sent a batch of plates and tried to get each person's original plate back to them - so it works best as an 'exchange program'. Since we're anodizing the old style plates that people send us - if you use the exchange program, you won't be receiving a plate with captive screws. Those are only available on new Domiplates.

Pierre, I responded to your email a little bit ago, but thank you again for your patience, and I'm sorry customs held on to that one for so long. You definitely hold the record now for the longest time any of our shipments has been stuck in customs.

I'm sure customs hung on to it for a long time because it looked so suspicious. "Hmm, here's a flat aluminum plate with numbers on both sides and an offset step... It's that offset step that really gets me suspicious, Floyd, let's ponder this longer". I'm reminded of the "Airplane" movie scene where the old lady gets jumped and searched while armed militia walk through the security check.

The tools in my truck were talking the other day. The Dewalts, PC's, Boschs, Makitas were not happy. They also were in the minority. Their complaint: They felt unused and unappreciated since the Festools moved in. I guess the truth hurts.

Gentlemen, any updates on Domiplate availability?
We received the latest shipment from our anodizing vendor, but many of them weren't anodized evenly...and on top of that, they used the wrong color. So we had to ship the order back to get fixed. I'll post here soon and update the senecawoodworking.com site when I have a better idea of when we'll be back in stock... Sorry everyone for the delay.

Unless lightning strikes a third time that should be this Thursday or Friday. I also designed a Domiplate XL (XL 700) that will be coming a little later.

I'll let my son Ryan address this however we are finding that if we give the conventional wholesale discounts to the big boys (you know who they are) it would move us into a non-profit organisation status. Our margins aren't very large. The difference may be if we could get very large orders for resale from W, R, & LV where it would eliminate much handling.

Speaking of Domino XL - have you put any thought into making something similar to the jigs Rembo has shown us? A jig that would allow for morticing door locks and hinges would be freaking amazing. I say this for two reasons: first, I hate doing it... and second, I'm terrible at it (probably why I hate doing it, hah).
