No Pro5 listed. Is there a new model name for it or is it effectively discontinued?

Normally I enjoy posts from @Shane Holland , even the ones that entice me to spend money.  The news of price increases is rather disappointing (although somewhat expected).  My positive remark is that the revised website makes it easier to purchase wisely.

Thank you for the notice @Shane Holland.  How do we apply the $50 voucher that came with the Pro 5's? Do we have to hand the card over in person, or can we read off the code when placing an order?

The voucher is paid directly by festool, it is not turned in to a dealer at purchase

@Gordon Bombay, I'm pretty confident that we will see the return of a 5" sander in the form of the ETS 125 REQ. Just not sure when that might happen. I suspect Festool's production has been focused on churning out PRO 5s to fill backorders and once that's all taken care of production of the ETS 125 REQ can take place. If I had to guess, I'd say it'll be a couple of months.

@c_dwyer, you purchase any Festool power tool from your dealer of choice (ahem, The Tool Nut  [wink]) then you go to http://www.festoolpro5.com where you will enter some information like the voucher code, serial number and model of tool purchased. Festool will process the rebate claim and send you a check in 4-6 weeks.

@Tyler Ernsberger, there have been rare instances where prices have gone down some. In 2008 there were no price increases at all, the only year in my 12+ years being involved with Festool. This year, the majority of the main tools did not see increases.

Some of the new kit prices don't seem to add up very well, compared to the current prices.
TSC 55                                           $465  ->  $465
TSC 55 w/Batteries&Chargers           $725  ->  $785
                        new separate prices                $465+$55+$55+$65+$65+$12/13 ($727/$728)
TSC 55 w/Batteries&Chargers&Rail    $825  ->  $885
                        new separate prices                $465+$55+$55+$65+$65+$12/13$133/136 ($860/$864)
Battery                                             $55  ->    $55
Charger                                            $65  ->    $65
Stop Limit                                         $12  ->    $13
I'm thinking I'm buying the pieces parts separately, and maybe without the second charger, if I buy them at all.  Not that I want to draw too much attention to the math, since Festool will probably just make the less expensive prices more expensive.

I thought that also until I saw that the new cordless tool kits will come with the AirStream batteries & chargers.
The AirStream batteries & chargers cost $80 each. That is a $15 increase for each battery & charger included in a kit.

I'm personally think the price increases are crazy.  Every April it's the same thing,  beat the price increases and buy now...   With the US Dollar being so high we should have price decreases.  Especially with customer service being so bad lately.  It typically takes 5-10 calls to get through to someone at the repair department.   We get a survey asking about our experience with Fog and our dissatisfaction with and our options.  Why did big figures leave FoG?  Because they are tired of the same things over and over again.  It's my option that when Shane left Festool,  a big part of Festool USA died.  He built the brand to where it is today and got many to buy and support Festool.  Festool USa will never be the same with out Shane.  It's my belief that's when FoG and Festool went down hill.  The whole price thing is Corporate Greed.

What about increases from other brands? Festool did their price rise in Oz early January, approx 3% per year. Most other brands tend to go up by the same amount early in the year here as well :/

Death, taxes, and the yearly (April) Festool price increase are all certainties against which one could make book.  It is really inconceivable to think of any reason for a price increase, aside from the obvious, Festool feels there is enough elasticity in pricing for their products, as well as demand that they can get away with the yearly price increase.

I have some Festool tools, enjoy them, use them and come to FOG to learn how to better use them.  Even though there are a few Festool tools offered that I don't have and that I might like to have, my days of buying more Festool tools are over.  If anything, given the world-wide scope of trade agreements, exchange rates, available markets, discretionary money availability, Festool should be lowering prices in the USA, not raising them.

I have a pretty good amount of green in the shop and have been around the brand (if not the FOG) for long enough to not batt an eye at the yearly price increase...until this year. Those are some stout increases! Really nuts on some items in my opinion! I'm glad I'm mostly kitted out. These increases at a time when the exchange rate is so favorable is completely unjustifiable. I'm not naive enough to expect decreases (although Lee Valley does a good job tying their American prices to the dollar) but a $60 increase on a tracksaw? They've lost their minds.

I have come to realize that Festool will raise their prices on an annual basis based on whatever internal data they have accumulated and discerned.  Whether or not that damages sales or prevents others from buying their first tools must be part of their decision process.

But forecasting is just forecasting.

I was at a Festool demo this past weekend and definitely let those in the audience know about the upcoming price increase.  Also talked about my ten year old TS-55.  Glad my wife bought it for me then.

Guess I need to adjust my replacement cost insurance policy on my Festools again.

Yeah - that track saw increase caught my eye too, especially since the individual prices on the pieces parts have not changed.  Apparently the new kits include the new airstream batteries and chargers - see above in the post.  So the $60 increase looks bad, but it's not apples to apples.  The individual parts in the old kits can still be had for the same prices as the old kits, except for the high end kit where you're paying $100 for a 55" rail that costs $133 (now) separately.

It seems as though some of the larger price increases people are complaining about are related to the cordless KITS and not the bare tools (BASIC).  Example - The TSC55 kit is increasing $60 but not the bare TSC55.  Same thing for the HKC55 kits and the DWC kit.  You can search this easily on Shane's awesome list.  This suggests it's about the batteries/chargers - perhaps they are replacing the batteries in the kits with the new Airstream batteries and charger?  Or they've just decided their batteries should be more expensive.

I hate the annual April price increase as much as anyone, but just wanted to point that out.

EDIT:  And I just realized that was pointed out earlier in the thread.  Well, carry on then.   [embarassed]

That's true but with other brands you have the option to shop around for a deal.
 I can't be the only one who has found a good deal on let's say Makita on the internet from a tool store offering free shipping in Aus and noticed that Bunnings haven't lowered their prices in time to match the same item and therefore taken advantage of the extra 10% on their we'll beat any price by 10% guarantee.

I was surprised that the new tools released last year were having a price increase - I seem to recall in the past that first year tools held pricing for a year, but maybe I am mistaken. The Vac-Sys is one example.

It is funny, every year we have this discussion - as Edward said, death, taxes, the annual price increase in April from Festool and I will add the annual thread complaining about the price increases. And then it passes and folks still continue to buy and discuss tools and it is all forgotten until the end of the year when some member asks about the annual price increase.

At the end of the day it is not all that much money - sure, we all want to save a couple of dollars. But at this level of tool, is an extra $5 - $30 really going to matter all that much? Even spread over several tools it is not that much money when you figure how long you will likely use the tools over the course of a few - several years. It adds up to cents on the day. I bet many people spend more on daily coffee or lunch and endure all the little price increases on the daily purchases that add up to much more than the cost of a tool. Every retailer raises prices - it is a fact of life. At least Festool gives us all plenty of warning and let's everyone know what the new prices will be in advance.

Not trying to discount anyone's feelings on the topic and I hate paying more money just like the next person, but trying to offer another perspective.

@Shane Holland few questions:

1. Is there a typo on this page for the new airstream battery kit for the TSC 55.

TSC55 w/Airsteram
Shows that this comes with the TC3 charger and not the SCA 8 charger.

2. Will the TSC 55 accept the 6.2Ah battery?

3. Do you have a basic TSC 55 C available in metric?   Any new old stock?

1) Yes, it's a typo. All of the Airstream cordless tools include the SCA 8 Airstream charger.

2) Yes, you can use the 6.2Ah battery with all existing 18v cordless tools.

3) Yes, we have it in stock, link below for your convenience.

The TSC 55 kit comes with two chargers. Since Festool does not have a dual-port charger, they include to single port chargers so you can charge both batteries simultaneously.

So if I understand you correctly the current kit comes with 2 TC3 chargers. What about the new kit? 2 SCA 8 chargers or does the SCA 8 charger already charge 2 batteries?

@vkumar

The non-BASIC models come with two chargers. The current models come with two TCL 3 chargers, the new models (annotated as "AirStream" on our website) come with two SCA 8 chargers.

The SCA 8 is still only capable of charging a single battery at a time. While it looks like there are two charging slots on it, one is for Lithium Ion batteries and the other is for older NiCad and NiMH batteries.

Bump, ICYMI.

Beat the price increase, order now to save!

Thanks, just ordered the Festool 201353 Domino XL Connector Systainer Set. I have a couple tables which I plan to make as knock-downs and this will be perfect. Plus another chance to use my Domino XL.  [big grin]

With Mafell making a bigger push into the US market and Festool having the annual price increase, at some point justifying the additional price for Mafell tools isn't going to be hard to do.

Yeah, if this stuff continues I'm either going to spend more time doing what your handle says or I'm changing from green to red - maybe a combination of both.

One thing that irritates me about the annual price increase is that some of these tools haven't been updated in nearly a decade. I have more than enough Festools for my hobbyist use so I'll most likely just be buying consumables.

Who I'm I kidding? I'm sure that I'll want something in the future.

As someone who prefers metric, if I order a TSC 55 basic metric now and the order the Airstream batteries and charger later;

Would I be able to order a new insert to fit the existing Sys 5 to be able to fit the TSC 55 saw, the 2 Airstream batteries (5.2Ah) ateh 2 new SCA 8 chargers. I know you may not have pricing now but approx how much would it cost?

Thanks

@vkumar, yes, the insert will be available. We have requested info from Festool on the inserts but I don't think we've got it yet. Usually inserts are about $15-20 if memory serves me.

Ok.  So I've done my reasearch (including this thread) and, in short, the price increase for the HKC and PDC seems mainly about the new batteries and chargers coming into play.

So I have to ask.  Does it really matter if I order HKC Airstream (same for PDC) now as compared to after April 3rd?   From what I gather there should be no increase in price since the basic kits are not increasing in price or will the new Airstream kits increase soon after?

@LostInTheWood, there will be no price changes for any AirStream products on 4/3. If you order from us now, we will not bill your credit card until it ships (Paypal is instantly transferred). All AirStream products will ship on 4/3, the official release date.

Edit: And, correct, the BASIC versions of the cordless are not changing in price at all.

If you have other questions, feel free to email me at shane@toolnut.com.

I am aware of price increases, but I have to say for us you where looking at the TSC55 it really makes us take a look at where to put our money when we buy. I for one am only just a retired person wanting to buy the best saw to fit my purpose. Now I already adjusted to the fact it was a certain amount now I would have to add another 60.00 to that. Does festool not become aware at some point Mafell and other companies are staring to look pretty good price wise. May be their dedicated following does not affect that.

@Bob D.

Well, the important thing to remember is that all orders placed before the deadline are locked in at the previous price.  I can't imagine what the demand must be on each individual store with everyone rushing to place orders before the deadline.  I would think only those with an unrealistic level of inventory could guarantee availability given those circumstances.

With the exception of the Pro5 Sander, i have never seen any backorder exceed a reasonable amount of time.

While I don't like the annual price increases myself, I must admit it does motivate me somewhat to get my shopping done.  In fact, a few items that did not go up in price, were placed on the "wait to purchase" list.  Everything I did buy was scheduled for an increase.  The fact I don't have my hands on any of it yet, means nothing to me.  Just what I paid is the only thing that matters (to me).

It's a weird sort of promotion...like pretending these tools are on sale because we're gonna raise all the Festool prices soon.  In a way it's kind of a reverse sale - buy soon at the same price these cost for the last 12 months or if you dally we'll lighten your wallet even more!

Just a random statement...I know nobody, including me, likes price increases. But, as a business owner, I increase my prices every year. I'm sure there are plenty of business owners on these threads doing the same and if you are not a business owner, your employer is likely doing increasing their prices too. We have to in order to keep up with the market, material increases, inflation, etc.

The only difference for me, is that I don't do a marketing campaign announcing my price increases. I'm just surprised how a lot of people get upset about an annual price increase. I guarantee majority of the products people buy, are more expensive this year than last.

If a business is EU based and doing business in the US, isn't there already substantial increases in gain based upon their current prices?  Just asking.

For domestic businesses doing domestic business, price increases are easily justified, and are understandable - inflation, etc.  When one gets involved in international commerce, with different currencies, exchange rates, tariffs, price supports, etc. justifiability and understandability becomes less obvious, at least to me.  Just saying.

For me, expendables for my Festools will probably be the only "Green" I'll be purchasing going forward.

Yes they do - maybe; depends upon exchange rates, current trade deals, tariffs, price supports, and a myriad of other issues.  It's much more involved, as I'm sure you recognize, when one does business across international boundaries.

An example of this is the fact Mafell didn't have a price increase at all this year.  They are also based in Germany, so one wonders why Festool felt the need to increase prices while Mafell didn't.

All this is way above my pay grade, but it does make you wonder.
