Some of you may remember our first invitation to end users for a training event back in August. A huge thank you those members who participated in that event and offered their feedback! We would like to extend another invitation to end users to attend a new training event in November. Below, you will find details about that event. Please let us know if you have any questions. Course Description:As the next step in the development of Festool end-user focused classes, we are calling for entries for a 2-day class focused on the onsite construction and installation of cabinets utilizing the Festool System. The class will take place at our headquarters in Lebanon, IN, and will be primarily geared towards professional applications. In this class, we will cover the tools and techniques necessary to build and install shop-quality cabinetry onsite. Though participants will walk away with a range of broadly applicable skills, the class will concentrate primarily on the construction of a 32mm frameless upper cabinet and a traditional face-frame base cabinet. From raw material to finished boxes ready for finish, you will learn how to work faster, easier, and smarter with the Festool System. Since most of the two days will be spent in the shop, actually using the tools, we request that registrants have some previous knowledge of the Festool System, and/or the basics of trim carpentry or cabinet construction. Though we hope to add classes geared toward novices in the future, this should be considered an intermediate to expert-level class. What will I learn?Onsite Cabinet Construction- Accurate and safe processing of a 4 x 8 sheet goods with the TS Plunge-cut saw
- Precision ripping with FS parallel guides
- Squaring and final dimensioning of cabinet parts on the Multifunction table
- Dimensioning parts with Kapex miter saw
- Building a face frame with the Domino joiner
- Joining frames and cases with the Domino joiner
- LR 32 Hole drilling set
- Hinge plate boring
- Shelf pin boring
- Trimming edge banding with MFK700 router
- Quick and efficient assembly with T-drills
Installation Basics- Toe kick construction with Domino
- Filler strip attachment with Domino
- Scribing with Rotex, TS 55, Or PS jigsaws
How do I apply and how are participants selected? If you are interested in participating, please click here to complete this online survey no later than next Monday, October 12th, and provide a few details about yourself. We will notify selected participants (as well as a handful of alternates) by Wednesday of next week. The one thing we ask of our selected participants is that you arrive on time and stick around for the full two days. Since we?re not charging for the class, you will lose nothing if you no-show, but it will mean that someone else misses out on a great opportunity. Travel and Accommodations: Participants are responsible for all travel and accommodations. We will be glad to help you make hotel reservations at our preferred local establishment (Fairfield Inn). And for those participants staying at the Fairfield Inn, Festool will arrive for pick-up on both days at 7:15am. Festool will provide basic refreshments (bagels and coffee) in the morning at our HQ, and lunch will be provided both days. Since some of the best conversations happen outside of the classroom, we will plan to cook out on Monday night at Festool HQ. We look forward to hearing from all of you, and hope to see some of you very soon. When & Where? * Please note: Attendees will be responsible for all expenses related to travel and accommodations.Class Feedback:We plan to reserve at least an hour at the end of the second day to get everyone?s feedback on the class. We want to hear what you thought about the class structure and material covered, among other things. Festool training personnel in attendance:- Brian Sedgeley, Tool and Application Trainer
- Steve Bace, Tool and Application Trainer
There may also be additional members of the Festool USA team present periodically throughout the training event.

Great idea! I'm using the system to do exactly that, every day! Work very very well.
I wish I would be easier to get to those events...

I didn't make the cut for the last class but if I can get in this one, it will work out better in the end. This is exactly what is on the radar for the next application of my Festool collection. The house remodel is almost complete and the cabinets are about to begin.

Obviously, space is limited but I would like to encourage everyone who is able to attend and interested in the program to enter their information. This is almost certainly going to become a permanent addition to our training programs. If you aren't selected for this one, there will definitely be additional opportunities in the future.
Again, two thumbs up to the attendees at our pilot event. Their input was invaluable in giving purpose and direction to future training events.
Edit: I should mention that there will also be future events held at our Las Vegas training center.

If I went to this one, it would cost me about 4 grand because I would have to buy most of those tools then.
This will be a good one for some guys.

Having been one of the lucky ones to attend the first end-user training, I can say with all confidence that anyone who qualifies and can get away should attend. I've been to a lot of factory or vendor training events, and the Festool folks were the most accommodating, knowledgeable, and FUN people you could want to spend a couple of days with.
Clear your head and be ready to absorb lots of info.
Good luck to all, Dan

I agree with Dan. It should be lots of fun and information for those who are able to attend. I was lucky once and was in agreement with Dan and some others that this would be a perfect class to offer. Heck, I even said that I would gladly pay for this class. I would be a hypocrite if I didn't work on the wife to see if I can even ask to be included. Begging and groveling will be the first course of action. Whining like a puppy is also in the plans. I can't tell you what the final onslaught will be. She is armor coated and has seen thru my schemes before. I already cook dinner, so that isn't the answer. Hmmm....

Living and working now in Louisiana, I have learned how things get done. Just as in politics here, all I need to know is who to bribe, offer side business deals to, give free sporting tickets, ------. Hey I might finally purchase that Kapex if you select me!!! What else can I try. Would wimpering, whining, groveling work? I am going to be insanely jealous AGAIN of the selected participants. Being a hobbiest with a LONG list of honey-do projects, this class would most surely benefit me!!!!!!!!!! Pete

JR, my Avatar, found a flight from Joisey to Indianapolis and back for about ~250. Not bad. Much easier than driving. Of course, flying precludes coming back with a trunk full of new toys. I'd love to attend. I can get flights to Indianapolis for under 450GBP Unfortunately, I don't have 450GBP to spare

No. Too much hassle to get down there. Especially as I'm German... I would have to leave finger prints and such and if they would find ANYTHING against me, they would not send me back to Canada, no they would send me to Germany... For me, to risky as I was in the German Airforce for quite some time and also traveled many times in Terrorist countries (Africa). Too many crazy laws in your country.... Let's get something going in Canada!

So shall we assume that if we received no notification, that we were not selected? If so, it would have been nice to have gotten notification of non selection. Steve

I agree with Fred,
They take the selection process very seriously. I'll bet that they had quite a response to the proposal. If you go back and read the original post if there was a typo in it it could mean Wednesday of "THE" next week.
I'm like everyone else - waiting for news.

It's my understanding that the selected attendees were contacted yesterday for this class. All eight selected applicants said that they would be able to attend.
I know this may be discouraging but I would like to remind everyone that applied that we will have additional classes. We had to select from a LOT of applicants. There will be at least one more class in December at each of our training facilities and I know there are already plans being formulated for classes in 2010. Also, should anyone need to cancel, we have a list of alternates.
We would like to thank everyone who took the time to apply for the class.

Shane,
I hope you're taking videos of the training, at least the classroom portion. Obviously it's not as good as the live class, but for those of use who can't be there, it would be a great resource. I suspect that this would give viewers a lot of "Ah ha!" moments.
Thanks,
Dan.

Curious- the course structure is suited to Cabinetmakers, but Cabinetmakers would already have that knowledge. Surely it isn?t aimed at the beginner/armature/hobbyist market for them to go out into the industry? Or is it just for them to make their own kitchens

Tezzer,
I think that this class is designed to show how the Festool complete system can be utilized to construct cabinets. Cabinet makers may or may not use all the various Festool components and a course like this might get them to alter their work processes if it can be shown effectively. That might not have been said correctly - it rings of marketing - which it isn't meant to imply.
I wouldn't be surprised in the least if this is a preliminary class that will be used - just like the first one was - to help develop separate courses and work out bugs. The initial post indicated that this was going to be an advanced class and that they were planning to have similar classes for less advanced individuals in the future. A class like this was one of the suggestions made during our discussions made at the first class.
The folks at Festool do listen to what is said by those who attend and I am sure will use that information to modify / improve / augment their training options. If I remember correctly, other than in Europe this is the only other Festool Division that is offering these types of opportunities.

I'd like to take the class because I am planning to build a new set of kitchen cabinets for myself next year and while my Dad is a professional cabinet maker (now retired) and can easily teach me to build them the way he does it, I'm also interested in learning how to do more w/ my Festool equipment and less with his shop "big iron".

Tezzer,
It also states that class will be for onsite cabinet construction. Not many cabinet makers that I know of do much of there work onsite.
