The woodpeckers DP table is nice, I have one, but it doesn't help with rotating or tilting the table.

It's a table saw, do you know where your fingers are?

Cheese,

I see you opted for the mini-micro metal vise.

That’s funny Bryan...your post made my day...seriously...for metal working you need either clamping force or weight or both. The Heinrich is only 40# and thus when you secure it to the Woodpeckers drill press table, even though the clamping track is relatively weak, the weight advantage just means it’s just not going to move.

I should however reveal that I did remove the original fasteners from the Woodpeckers track and rebed the track with construction adhesive and steel t-nuts. That’s the way it should have come from the factory.

But the rotation or tilting of the drill press table is endemic to the manufacturer of the drill press.

I’ve just always thought that a drill press (like a band saw) is such a universal tool that’s it’s difficult to have a “one size fits all” scenario. Everyone uses these tools in a different manner.

I just find the Woodpeckers drill press table to be a nice bridge between metal working and woodworking. It can be used for either and removed when serious metalworking dictates.

@duc996, since it was on sale through 12/31, my guess would be that it'll be a while before they do another promotion. I don't have any knowledge of anything currently on the calendar. But, if you click the notify button at the top of this thread, I'll post as soon as we learn of another sale.

Thanks,
Shane

Is the current $100 discount the same as the pre-christmas sale?

From reading the reviews, folks seem to like the drill press pretty well -- with the chuck's not holding fine bits being a commonly-acknowledged limitation.

How has it been for overall runout and quality of the holes otherwise?  is it adjustable if any play does develop?

Matt

Saw that. Now if we could combine that with a 10-15% off day from AcmeTools or if it's your birthday month they give you a 15% off coupon, we'd REALLY have a deal!

Hopefully thatll happen before Sept. 30th for anyone thats looking to buy one of these!

Bought one of these around the first of the year to replace a small Delta bench top.  Made a custom top using Woodpecker fence and stops.

The drill press is really nice- love the ability to slow it down to 50 RPM very quickly.  Also really like the auto-depth stop for drilling a series of holes the same depth.

Since I've owned it in six short months, there have been two software updates to the unit.  You do need a WINDOWS machine to do the updates via USB as an FYI.  But it's nice to see them adding new functionality and simplifying the user interface over time.

It does have a tapping mode that will auto reverse, though I have not yet used it.

I did change out the chuck for one that would go down to a 1/16" bit.  The standard chuck does not close down small enough and rather than deal with a secondary small insert chuck, I just swapped it out.

Thanks for the caster mounting suggestion. My local shop fabricated similar mounting strips and braised the studs securing the base so the bottom is smooth. Works great! [smile]
