@Carquest, yup, check out these videos. Pretty cool actually. You can configure preset speeds to your liking as well.

Also, you can check out the manual online.

Shane. Have you seen one in person?  It always appears to be very short for a floor drill press.  I know you could build a base to raise.

@Wooden Skye, I have not seen it in person. It's not been released yet to the general public. Let me see if I can get some information on the height of the machine and height range of the table. I'll let you know those specs when I get them.

Please do, the machine appears to be fairly short, which would make it a little cumbersome to use unless it was put on a riser. Otherwise, I think this drill press may be exactly what I am looking for. Thanks

@Carquest here's a link to their site.

http://www.teknatool.com/products/WoodShop/Drill%20Press/NOVA_Drill_Press.htm

The specs say the distance from the quill to the base is about 41 inches. Like you said seems short.

But they say on the website that the production models should be taller but don't say whether the listed specs are the production or the pre-production model.

I'd also be interested in what the specs are for runout.

The only dimension that I could get from Teknatool is that it's 68" tall. They said they would be able to provide more measurements once they have production units around the 1st.

Edited for new information, below.

Overall height = 70-5/8" (whew)
Spindle to base = 48

Having a drill press available on the market that has no belts to change will be something worth having.  Their motor system on the lathe is great.

They have plenty of experience designing lathes but this is their first drill press.
Even a novice would realize that this thing is too short for a floor model
and too tall for a bench model.

And if all they need to do is avoid cutting the column too short?

Or I could use one of my SysLites and the magnetic adapter.

When I saw this topic last night I tried convincing myself that I needed two drill presses, one for my new garage shop and another in my basement shop.

I have to take back my comments.

The specs seem to put the new drill press right in line with other floor model drill presses (although the "spindle" is a vertical component so I'm just assuming they meant the bottom end where the chuck is attached).

It still seems short to me but that's because I use an old Delta bench model and I'm used to the chuck being higher. Mounting this DP on a mobile base would allow me to put the chuck where I want it and this compact head design looks like it would weigh less than the conventional design.

Any idea what the weight is?

It would be great to see one in person at the Tool Nut Festool Roadshow.
Will you have one by then?

@Michael Kellough, I only have a shipping weight which is 306 lbs. They did not give me just the product weight.

We will not have one at the store on 11/5. They are still in production and there's not an exact ETA on when they will start shipping. Only that they will ship around the beginning of the month. So, this is a pre-order for early-November delivery.

@antss  Good one.  I have the metric versions of the TS75 and OF1400.  I'm in the group that would've been fine for Festool to stay metric, but to be honest I don't use the scales (esp on the TS75) as much more than a coarse adjustment and could probably adapt to imperial.  Just would prefer not.

I just set mine up in my garage shop. I received it 10 days ago but the base was at a local machine shop having a rolling base fabbed with Zambus casters.

I am happy to answer any questions. This was one of the pre-production models on special.

I am 5' 9 1/2" and the monochrome LCD screen sits nicely at eye level.

I previously owned a gear head 3 ph Wilton-Arboga and sold it before my move from Minneapolis to Fresno. No comparison in weight, torque etc. After one day of light play use it looks like a good wood-working DP.

Couple of photos attached - sorry about the messy setup.

What is the weight?  It has to be lighter than this 675 lbs alternative:

www.acmetools.com/shop/tools/ellis-drill-press-9400

Edit:  I just saw Shanes post indicating 306 lbs shipping weight.

Love your base by the way...

Here is the info on purchasing the pre-production units, which it appears are purchased from your dealer.  20% off, but $200.00 shipping and only 40 pre-production units available (who knows as of when).

*Not sure I would be tempted, even if the pre-production item was still available.  I've worked in manufacturing before, and I know what "Pre-Production" can mean.  Once you get over the $1,000.00 mark, I'm not one to jump too quickly into an item that went through layers and layers of modifications, in order to get the bugs out.  But hey, that's just me.

"This first Pre-Production batch is at a special discount for early bird buyers. Get 20% off and be the first to own the worlds first smart drill press! Plus shipping at a special rate of $200.00. There are only 40 units available at this special price so be quick! As a purchaser of this pre-production batch, you will be requested to complete a survey.

These units are very close to production quality, the only main differences you would notice are decals are missing from this batch which will be on production batches, the manual may get further information added to it, and so on. Our full warranty still applies. You can still receive a no charge decal set on request (when available) and an updated manual when you purchase from this batch.

Cool looking drill. I would be interested in seeing some reviews on this saw before I jump in.

While following Haxit's new shop rebuild and seeing his very nice equipment including his drill press, got me to start surfing the interwebz for info, I had never seen one like that before. Beautiful piece of equipment, but possibly a little steep for me at this time in my life. I do like to buy quality equipment once though, and don't mind saving up,to get the best I possibly can. The intent is to not have to replace it at a later date. In the meantime I can be saving up for another tool😀

In my surfing I also came across the Powermatic DP, which looks very nice. I would kind of lean that way until, this one has proven itself.

I like Haxits DP but from overseas, parts and support may be an issue, and the price tag for me as already mentioned.

Then Voyager is new and unproven. While the electronic wizardry is very cool, this could also be the Achilles heel. If the display or something goes down, it is going to be an expensive fix.

Powermatic or another traditional manual DP would be pretty much good to go, not much to go wrong. Sometime old school is best.

I would like to see some reviews on the Voyager, someone here with some first hand experience. Obviously it will not have been under use for very long as it what just released, but with some good hard use with different materials would be great. I would love for this to get some great reviews, it looks like a great tool.

I would like to see some reviews on the Voyager, someone here with some first hand experience. Obviously it will not have been under use for very long as it what just released, but with some good hard use with different materials would be great. I would love for this to get some great reviews, it looks like a great tool.

Surprised you mention Powermatic. Am I incorrect in reading numerous negative reviews?  Slipping belts. Run out. Deflection.

Let me know if I am under informed on the powermatic.

You may very well be right. I've not got as far to read reviews yet. I did just read one on another forum from an owner who loved his Voyager over a 2800b Powermatic that he owned. While it was a good drill (but with the belt issue you mentioned) he liked the Technatool much better.

Old school may be best, possibly a Beltless, geardriven variant.

If you really delve into it the majority of the poor reviews of the PM2800 are the first version and early production PM2800b units (slipping belts).

I am normally reluctant to dive into a new machine especially with the level of electronics and completely different motor technology BUT Teknatools has been using both on their lathes for years and pattern problems don't seem to have emerged.  I got to play with one of these for about 45 minutes at my local pusher and it quickly became my favorite drill press and is on my to-buy list as soon as I get my new shop finished.  The bells and whistles are actually things I will use.  I will replace the chuck with a keyless one and probably add a table more conducive to woodworking, the Voyager is better than many but Powermatic still has the best wwing table.  Plus, a table gets rid of one of the Nova's miscues (IMO) the round insert.  The PM has a rectangular insert in the b version and it makes it very easy to make them in the shop.  The Nova does come in a decent step up in price, it is $100 more plus shipping which the PM includes with liftgate for "free" with all their machines.  With me adding a table and keyless chuck the difference is even more significant but I still see the Voyager as the best woodworking DP on the market new, obviously there are better DPs at prices to match but those are built more in the metal working style.

Any updates/comments from any more owners of this DP? There still doesnt seem to be much out there on it. Seems like not many have purchased them.

I think as time goes by we will see the DP fall into the same cycle of sales as their lathes.  They are just like Laguna, Powermatic and Jet, if you can wait they WILL go on sale.
