Trade Up Promotion - Amazon and Secondary Markets
« on: September 27, 2018, 01:25 PM »
@Festool USA @Shane Holland
Does it matter where you purchase your Festool to qualify for this trade-up deal?
Should this be an authorized dealer or e-bay or Amazon will work too?
Obviously, it must be a brand new, unregistered tool.

P.S. Shane, don't try to tell me it has to be only FestoolProducts.  [big grin]

@Svar, yes you have to purchase from us! [wink]

I joke, but we’d like to earn your business. An authorized dealer will do.

Only new tools are eligible for the TRADE UP promotion. This also excludes tools purchased on secondary markets such as eBay and Craigslist. Only valid on purchases from an Authorized Festool Dealer.

If you read the Festool FAQ on the promo they state that while it must be new, eBay and Craigslist are excluded. However. .Hartville Hardware, an authorized dealer, sells on eBay brand new tools so I don't see why you couldn't stack the promos. Might help to call Hartville and see if they will generate a receipt for you. You may get lucky with a $300 OF 1010 but I wouldn't be surprised if Festool said no.

Any authorized dealer works. So secondary markets like eBay are a no-go.

While individuals selling on eBay is a no-go, Hartville is an authorized dealer. If they decide to use eBays platform to complete the transaction, I don’t see how this changes the fact that I paid Hartville, an authorized dealer the full MSRP. If the party conducting the transaction decides to lower the transaction price, this should also have no bearing. It’s no different than my credit card company giving cash back. I took advantage of this promotion earlier today before reading this thread, and I’ll be quite upset if Festool doesn’t uphold their end of the deal, seeing that I’ve complied with the terms and spirit of the promotion.

Hartville Hardware is indeed an authorized dealer (confirmed with them) with their own website. E-bay is just another storefront for them. So, is that still a secondary market @Festool USA ?

I agree with @egmiii above. Good analogy with CC cash back.

Updated answer:
To qualify for the $100 Trade-up offer, it is necessary to first submit a receipt from an authorized Festool dealer for the purchase of a qualifying tool during the stated period.  Purchases directly from the dealer, or from a third party whom they employ, are equally acceptable.

The interesting thing about these ebay promotions is that the vendor doesn't actually appear to be aware of the discount.  When I bought my RO90 on a similar promotion earlier this year the receipt from Hartville showed the official Festool price, it seems that the payment processor collects the reduced amount and kicks in the rest so it's transparent to the vendor.  So where Festools are normally excluded from discounts in this case it gets discounted anyway.

As long as the actual seller is an authorized dealer, it should be fine.

Great. That’s the way it should be. Thanks for the prompt response.

I see that Amazon is an authorized dealer, so that's good.

I’d have loved to participate in the Festool Trade Up promotion.
But, like many of you, I already have all the saws and routers that I need.
The eBay 15% Off promo provided a different Festool “opportunity”.
FYI -
Just bought 3 long wanted Festool accessory items - For my Festool OF 1010 router -
On eBay - From Hartville Hardware.
Cost: Festool List (Hartville’s) Price - Less 15%.
Billed me correctly - Worked fine.
Shipping FREE. No TAX (I live in Colorado).
Use coupon code PICKSOON by 6pm PT.
Thx Dane -  For the “heads up”. [wink]

Yes, as I read it. I suspect Tyler is not working now. If I didn't already have a OF 1400 I'd be buying that 1010 for a net cost of $300 in a heartbeat.

It’s been two weeks and I still haven’t receive a shipping label or anything. I purchased a HKC on 8/28/18 from Hartville Tool via eBay and submitted my rebate form and receipt on 9/17/18. How can I check on the status of my rebate request?

Thanks

Shipping labels will begin being sent soon. All submissions are being manually reviewed. If you don't hear anything from our customer service department within a few days, it's safe to assume that your submission is good to go. Otherwise, they'll contact you directly. (Tyler)

Not that I would do this but what stops someone from buying a tool, sending in a nasty tool and get the promotion $.
Then return the tool, do they ask for their promo money back?

This can be done legit like you don't really like the tool (and had intended to keep it) or just to be nasty and intentionally do it to get a free promo.

I think that they wait to send the $100 card until after the 30 day trial period.

Got mine today (10/9).  The e-mail looked odd at first because it’s from a third party, not Festool USA.
