Happy New Year everyone.

So 2017 is starting off with some interesting developments, all of which are to your advantage.  :)

Firstly, Festool are giving away a free 18v battery with most cordless machines, here's the blurb we have just received:

"A new 18V battery campaign for end users will be launching from the 1st January 2017 until the 31st March 2017. The campaign will mean that customers will receive a free 5.2Ah battery when they buy any of the following 18V tool range (excludes basic models):

Compact (our new 3.1 Ah batteries)
    Plus
    Plus SCA
    Set version

In order to receive the free battery, the customer must:

Register for SERVICE All-inclusive (dealers can obviously register on behalf of the customer through the usual online system)
The customer must also register via the promotional page on our website which can be found by searching www.festool.co.uk/18V

The microsite for the 18V battery campaign features a tab at the bottom of the page that says ‘Promotion’, this area can also be found by scrolling down through the www.festool.co.uk/18V microsite.

Once the end customer clicks the promotion tab they are able to complete the required form. Full terms and conditions will be available on the 18V microsite from 1st January 2017."

Festool 18V

This is a great campaign, well done Festool.

Your can order your Festool Cordless machine from us here: http://www.toolfest.co.uk/quick-search?terms=cordless

Secondly, we have a new plan here which we are excited to try out. We are lowering machine prices to epic levels, the lowest I can remember. Now of course, our competitors may read this and follow suit, only time will tell. And I cannot say how long the discounted prices will last as we have a goal to reach and once we acheive it, price pressures may make them go back up, we'll have to see.

In the meantime, please take a look, and if you need help send me a message.

Best regards

Warren

So if I am reading this right in the UK Festool dealers are allowed to set their own prices?

While in the freedom loving US the prices are fixed by Festool?

What am I missing here?

Thanks for the information! We have the same thing over in Germany (in Q1/2017).
https://www.festool.de/Microsite/Pages/UNPLUGGED.aspx

Buy a certain 18V tool and get a battery for free. I'm really thinking about getting the PDC.

But am I right in thinking you have to buy a set with a battery already included?  A second battery would be useful for some of the single-battery tools, but a 3rd battery for a drill might be a bit excessive (for a non-trade person).

Yep, I think since August 2012 dealers in the EU have been free to set their own pricing.

Yes @geoffshep , BASIC versions are not included, but hey you could sell the battery and then effectively discount your machine further.

Hi @GarryMartin , as soon as I have had a chat with our Festool Rep and placed the necessary orders I'll list them from Pre-Order, they'll be listed at around 25% off the RRP when I do.

To be honest the 3.1Ah Compact battery is news to me. I had no heads-up on this until the letter arrived.  :)

Thanks

@mrB , we don't like card numbers hanging around, we charge them, then shred the numbers. You can cancel at any time, especially if the machine gets one of the infamous delivery delays and get a refund.

Or email what you'd like and I'll try and remember to message you when they're in. However your order will be behind any that have pre-paid so could take some time. Up to you.

You can look up the model numbers on the festool website, select the basic or set version of the KS60 in the drop-down here: https://www.festool.co.uk/Products/Pages/Product-Detail.aspx?pid=561684

As ever, the Festool website is not very informative, but it looks like the set includes at least one clamp, a bevel and a light?

..and just check you are seeing the toolfest prices with VAT if that is appropriate!

Apparently Festool GB cannot set prices in GB in the same way they can elsewhere.  Does this lack of control extend to overseas shipments?  Say to the US?  Those are certainly attractive enough prices less 20% VAT to make up for quite a bit of shipping expense.

A dream, I know.  But it is a new year, and it brings new possibilities beyond just price hikes, I hope.

The penny drops.

I didn't notice the prices were ex VAT. Still some very competitive prices, but hardly lowered to "epic" levels. Of the three tools I checked they were only approximately £10 cheaper than Axminster's standard year round pricing! And actually some things still more expensive, such as Systainers, MFT and Centrotec sets to name a few.

Not sure why the prices are ex VAT, toolfest isn't a "trade only" supplier so it would be more appropriate to display inc VAT prices like their competitors, and less misleading to customers.

You can choose how the prices are displayed, just click the link at top right - 'Prices include/exclude VAT'

Ah rats to it.

I too have fallen foul of the ex/inc VAT prices. Very unusual, as noted by a previous poster, to see a website display ex VAT prices as the default when it's not primarily a business to business supplier.

Yeah I see that now. It's just the song and dance about "epic" prices and the fact that it's highly unusual to see an ecommerce retail website default to ex VAT prices in this day and age meant I thought the prices displayed when following the link were to be taken at face value.

Hi @bobfog

Sorry to have underwhelmed you, but hey they are 'epic' prices for us and cheaper than A is better then more expensive. The new pricing applies only to machines at the moment.

You are correct we are not a 'trade-only' supplier but the majority of our sales are to other businesses and you might have asked us our customer profile before making this assumption  [poke]. Not only Festool but also through our Tanos and Fixings business, the large proportion of our customers are VAT registered, so pricing INC VAT is just including something that is irrelevant.

I am sorry if this confuses things but hey there is a button on the home page for 'Inc Vat' prices for those not able to claim the VAT back, and VAT is always indicated clearly on the Cart page.

Your point is valuable though and I've taken it onboard.

Warren, which ever way we cut it, a 5% discount over what the products are readily available for elsewhere is hardly "epic". I don't know about your normal buying power, margins, etc; or if it's "epic" for you - that's not really the point, you over-egged the pudding. You also can't deny that based on all your competitors websites, to default to ex VAT is highly unusual.

What I'm picturing in my head is an episode of Are You Being Served in which word has come down from on high to increase sales and the minions dream up a scheme; and they are more excited about it than the punters are.

5% off a 500 Festool will get you dinner at a decent restaurant (by yourself) , but I'd hardly call it epic either.

Epic is 65% off with coupon for further savings on a future tool.

But, I can tell you this - excited salespeople are better for everyone.  No one wants to shop at a store where the people are crumudgeons.

Maybe you two, @bobfog and @antss can indulge me on this occasion. Selling Festool is a very tight market and when a few percentage points can make £100,000's of difference to our sales figures, I'm going to remain excited. I'm sure other dealers read the FOG, and so they may follow suit and it saves all of you money in the end?

I can't remember the last time a major, very well regarded dealer lowered their prices *across a range of machines* to the highest percentage discount they've ever sold at *for them*, and at levels below their competitors. Even at "just" 5%, it's still a great deal.

^^Exactly!  We know Warren has told us before that he is largely UN-able to compete in the same level as some of the other dealers at the their rock bottom profit margins and buying power.
But suddenly he is trying something new and is now the  lowest on price for every product i checked!

Warren is also regularly on the FOG being a wonderfully helpful and friendly member - i hope whatever he is trying out works well for toolfest.co.uk  and helps keep our UK prices competitively low.

The rude posts in this thread are surprising and unnecessary.

In the US 5% off of Festool on an ongoing basis would be HUUUGE!

It's hard here to get them to throw in a tshirt or a cap when you pay full retail.

Time for a revolution.

Warren , I'm not looking to take shots at you.  I hope your new promo is successful too.  Have you done 100k in new FT business in the few days since that was anounced ?   [eek]  [eek]. That's got to be some sort of record, and I can see why you're excited.  If it's just projections, well.....

Is it your plan to make the 5% off the normal selling price ? This can be good for the consumer in the short term, especially if others match or exceede your offer. Then you're just playing a war of attrition and unless you're a big juggernaut with lots of volume and other lines you'll eventually lose as those types can easily fill orders at a few point of margin because of the volume and they'll always be able to out price you. It's simply a race to the bottom.

This is exactly what FT doesn't want to happen, as it devalues their brand along the way.  Now , maybe they're at the business point they want to increase units sold at the expense of margin , but I don't know.

Of course 5% is better than nothing, like we have here in NA.  I'm just having a conversation about whether 5% is "epic" , or "huuuge" as SouthRider says.  I still maintain it is not either.  All are entitled to their opinion.

@PatR - since when does disagreeing with someone make a person rude.  My comments are no different than a group discussion about any other promotion from a retailer.  Some times they are good , sometimes they are stinkers , and sometimes they're just ho hum.  Perhaps you're new to retailing , but businesses generally don't offer promotions or sales because they love their customers. They do it because they want to generate more sales and money for themselves.

The goal is to have a product or service that doesn't need a gimmick to sell.

Another case in point : you know you've got an epic , huuuge , get it while it's hot deal when it ends after 3 days and your initial run is sold out, your three month supply is spoken for and there won't be any more for six.  That's big news, not 5% for an indefinite amount of time.

It pains me that I'm not allowed to curse on this forum.  [big grin]

Retail Price Management is super awesome.
TOOLFEST/System Container/Bunny's Bolts = top notch.

Unfortunately, RPM is illegal in the U.K., so Warren probably takes care of tons of people that turn around and buy stuff he offers from amazon or b&q or whatever, just to save a lousy couple of £.

Festool plays a big part in keeping my favorite businesses in business, here in the United States.   Do not underestimate the fact that most people will gladly spend all day in a store, demo products, tie up the salespeople, leave empty handed, and buy the product online to save a lousy ten bucks.

Festool will maintain their pricing agreements in the US, and I am happy for it.
It really irks me to see anyone hassling a long time devoted Festool dealer over chump change.  However, that seems to be the trend in the U.K. these days.   😔

Hi all
I have been around the FOG and a Festool owner for a long while now and met Warren a couple of years ago when he hosted the road show and the wonderful Phil Beckly let have a go on the HK85, wow what a machine!
I am amazed at the responses that have come Warrens way as if anyone bothered to spend a bit of time looking at the prices he is now offering would see that he is the best part of 10% cheaper than the two biggest hitters in this country N&B and FFX. I for my part will certainly taking Warren up on this deal and hope he is able to sustain it in the longer term

I took this offer and bought the T18 with the new smaller 3.1ah batteries. Service received from toolfest was simply amazing, i.e. quick delivery etc but the warranty form and battery offer form had been filed in on my behalf and i did not have to do anything, the free battery arrived a couple of weeks later directly from festool. The only part time a little annoyed is regarding the 3.1ah batteries not been able to be used in the ts55c, yes the saw is power hungry but it should still be able to power up with 2 x 3.1bats and be used to cut say 6mm mdf/ply or just a few short cuts. Festool should really make this clear, but the smaller battery size and reduced weight really makes a difference with the drills. However i think the offer is very good and with the best prices from toolfest I've just ordered a bhc 3.1ah plus and the full hkc set.

Yes, that's what I got, the free battery makes it good value, just a little annoyed that the smaller bats won't power up a saw even tho I've got a old 3ah batt and it does. Festool should make this clear

@msc Then you will be in the fairly unique position of being able to confidently answer a question I have not yet managed to get answer from on the forum. . . . . . Will the 18v 3.1ah Compact Batteries run the HKC saw?

I would be so grateful to finally get a confirmed answer for this!!

Just reinforcing what joiner1970 wrote.
Seems the free battery is now 5.2aH now??
Probably pull the trigger on BHC Basic now...
(Not sure if can use this promotion on more than one tool.)

The 3.1ah compact does power up a hkc but Ime unable to cut anything until next week. Never tried it until now. I knew about not powering a tsc55c because I ran out of and only had my 3.ah compact on hand and would not work even with 2 fully charged

^^^ thanks msc - that ultimately tells me what I need to know - of course any extra report on how well it performs with the battery would always be appreciated. . .

Cheers!

It has always been a 5.2 amp battery you receive, even if you purchased the compact set with 3.1 amp batteries. What is new is the added feature of buying a body only, it used to be set versions only up until a few days ago.

Thanks Carl - shows how much attention I've been paying  [embarassed]

Have vaguely fancied the BHC basic for a some while now.  The free battery
is pushing me over the edge - despite the fact BHC doesn't have a chisel mode.

Persuaded by the free battery offer, i bought another Carvex last month.

But after the delivery company inexplicably returned my parce/battery to Germany I've been unable to get a response from festool! For over two weeks and repeat emails [sad].

Is there a better way to be contacting them than info@festool.co.uk?  @Phil Beckley

Thanks.

After 6 months of dithering, finally decided to purchase the PDC 18/4 Set version so I could get the free battery.  Also, purchased the Carvex basic from Warren at www.toolfest.co.uk as his price is the best currently available.

Closing date for purchasing and registering a battery tool in the U.K. is tomorrow 30 June 2017.

Thanks for the order @LoftyDave , your post is a timely reminder that the offer does close tomorrow at midnight, so if anyone is still thinking of going for it and getting a free battery - now is the time.

Any orders received after midnight on 30th June will not qualify!!  [scared]

Best regards

I have now been trying to get hold of festool for a whole month! (See 3 posts back) Multiple emails & social media. Why will no one actually respond to me? What is going on? Where is the excellent customer service Festool continually claim to provide? Any customer service will do.....

Clearly it's not acceptable, and I don't know why this is, but the quickest responses seem to come from Facebook. But have you tried calling them?

Thank Gary. For some stupid reason it never occurred to me to call them. So used to email  these days i guess. I'll try that on Monday if i don't recieve any response from my latest round FB messages today.

Sadly my recent FB attempts are bordering on rude. Really not my style and i genuinely hate doing it, but im becoming insensed by the lack of response. I'm a very patient guy but I'm being tested here.

Part of my annoyance comes from the fact that when purchased my 2nd Carvex back well over two months ago it was in part because i knew the free 5.2ah battery would come in handy for the job im doing this week, outside with no power.

Anyway sh/t happens, i just want someone to answer me. 😭😁
