The price jumps from $149.99 to $239.99 simply because of the Systainer?   I thought it was a typo but checked the website and that's the price.  If I decide to order these it certainly won't be with a Systainer.

For what it's worth, the Festool version of the MFT FX set was $299.

FWIW...The price for an anthracite Tanos Systainer I is $76 on the Woodcraft website. Add in $9 for the bottom foam and $9 for the top foam and your up to $94.  So purchasing your own Systainer and foam and then packaging it your self is actually more expensive.

A bonus round is that I suspect the foam Woodpeckers uses, will be laser cut to size (that's been my experience) for an absolutely perfect fit. [big grin]

Sigh... Another odd OTT... I think they are trying to release these too frequently and are running out of ideas. Ill definitely be passing on this one.

@Cheese you beat me to it! LOL   [big grin]

The only thing I could add is that it may end up costing more for the bottom foam since the thickest seems to be 30mm and you may need more to fill it in to the height you need.

You're probably right Mike...and then there's the issue of removing small square pieces of foam to fit round pegs. [eek]

It's not just about the cost of individual parts. It's about paying top $$ for inefficient way to store those items. A handful of parts in a 3 gallon box. If I took all my jigs, fixtures, and bits and "organized" them in Systainers with this kind of density I'd fill my entire garage and probably start stacking systainers in the living room.

I agree, none of my drills and few of my sanders are stored in their Systainers. There’s no need for it because I use them too often. It’s too inconvenient to be constantly opening and closing Systainers.

My only point was if you’re the kind of guy that needs to have everything in a Systainer, then the Woodpeckers offer was the cheapest way to go.

I also feel having a Systainer to hold all the various dogs/stops would be a good idea.

I think it’s more of a Shop vs Field kind of use that determines the effectiveness of the systainer.  I use my stuff off site 90% of the time and have Systainerized almost everything. I have all my MFT dogs/Clamps etc thrown in to a Sys-II. It’s getting hard to close. May have to jump to a III soon if I keep adding things.

Ya I have to agree with that statement also. To tell a person they need or don’t need Systainers is wacko. Everyone has different needs and wants and everyone works on different items in different ways. To say that this is the only correct boiler plate and everyone should follow it strictly is delusional. To each their own....Que Sera Sera

Shane,

Do you know what the actual diameter measurement of these dogs is supposed to be? I have a custom cnc'd top with and the "close fit" dogs from TSO are a perfect fit.

Thanks
Jack

@Claimdude, according to WP, the stems for the 20mm dogs will be 0.785-0.786". As a reference 20mm comes out to 0.7874".

ETA - My Parf dogs are 0.785" and I consider them a great fit.

For anyone wondering as I was, whether the taller dogs are threaded to receive knobs from below the work surface, I contacted Woodpeckers to inquire. They are not.  Only the shortest ones in the kit are threaded to accept the risers.
