Re: ETS EC150 Sander "repair shop again"

Welcome to the FOG, and sorry for your troubles.  What are the symptoms of the problem, if you don't mind me asking?

Generally there haven't been many complaints about the ETS-EC, and for most people it seems to be very reliable.  I will say, though, that I myself experienced a problem with it after 2 years or so of use.  The plug-in socket became loose, such that the power would cut out intermittently.  I was able to fox the issue myself by simply swapping out for a new socket that cost me around 5 bucks from a local dealer.  Took me about 15 minutes and the sander has been working well again since then.

Otherwise, it is an amazing piece of kit, and is my go-to sander.

They get the parts from Germany. Same thing happened when I was in the UK (parts wise). When I needed something I called myfavorite  tool store (toolfest) and if its a little doohickey thats uncommon or way to common and they sell a lot of them cant keep the in stock they have to order the part from Germany.
They just cant run down to a hardware store and pick somethng off the shelf.

even in the UK it took about a week to get the part in. So it will be a bit before it comes.
Good thing is its still under warranty so it isnt costing you anything.
Id ask them for a loaner if the guesstimate time is longer than I want to wait

well it started with the trigger, while sanding lumber it would just act up as if it was shutting down then start back up  [eek].
i did change the plug from another tool to see if it was the problem but it was not. then a week later it just died on me so it sent it in for repair, i was told that it had been repaired including a new electric board and some other parts.  it worked well for the two weeks it came back and it started having the same symptoms and again it just DIED in the middle of sanding. i would love for festool to just replace it all together not to mention its just 6 months old. thanks for hearing me out guys. angel

Yikes...what’s happening to festool? Multiple repairs needed on their tools, festool problems main topic making its way to the top of the FOG homepage. All this at a premium price. Won’t be long for the next premium brand to surface and take over.

I agree with you WOOZAL.
Like many other “Green Kool Aid” faithful -
For many years I’ve been pretty much an “exclusive” Festool buyer/user.
I’ve spent $1000’s investing in Festool products.
Sadly - No more.
Just too many, continuing/increasing number of reports -
Of Festool tool failures, the last several years.

It appears that this once exceptional brand of tools - Sold at premium prices -
With relentless annual price increases - Even on unchanged/unimproved tools -
Is now becoming a brand of relatively competitive quality “me too” tools -
Trying to trade on “yesterday’s reputation” of excellence.

As my “out of warranty” Festool tools fail - And require “out of pocket” repairs -
I find myself reluctantly replacing them with tools of competitive brands.
Their failure rates - Are more and more - Comparable to Festool -
But cost 1/2 to 2/3 the prices of Festool products. I’m not alone.

The Wizard of Oz was able to “dazzle ‘em” with hype for a while -
But the “curtain” of reality eventually came down.
Frankly, it’s sad to watch the same thing happening with Festool.☹️
