It happened. 1 year and 9 months going strong. The the motor wound down during a series of cuts and an electrical smell. My Kapex is very central to my business and being without it, just about shuts me down. I got a repair order started, Packaged up my Kapex, Got a shipping label from Festool and dropped it off at UPS before the holiday weekend to begin it's transit to Indiana from Arizona.

Swung by my dealer, and told them what happened, and that I did the work to send it back so they didn't have to (They don't get paid for that labor), And it would have probably not started to ship until after the Holiday weekend. But they chimed in and said, "you can borrow our Demo" until mine comes back from Festool.

This is the Service I Paid for and am happy it's there. Of course no one is happy when a tool that is top dollar goes down and has to go in for service, But even a fairly new Mercedes can end up in the shop for a warranted item. It's all in how the company and the dealers service their customers.

So thanks to Festool and their great dealers for keeping my business up and going.

Well, that'll cover you the first three years anyway, but after that if it happens again it'll cost you hundreds to fix. Good to hear they took care of you though. That was very nice of them.

Not really, It's what they're obligated to do under their terms of sale to you.

Very nice would be taking care of the problem after year three.  Something that they have been known to do on occasion, but not necessarily with kapex.

I think keeping the shipping box + packing mtrl. is wise for any tool that doesn't come in a systainer.

The dealer doesn't have to loan you their floor model. I did not buy my Kapex from them, I had purchased from an Online dealer.

Exactly. There is no obligation for the dealer to loan a tool while one is being repaired

The local dealer's service clearly above and beyond.  Disappointing to hear about yet another Kapex going down.
Current systainer to productivity ratio:  very high

Haha.  Another one bites the dust and still no response from Festool.  Glad your dealer helped you out.  Sorry to hear about your Kapex.

Yea the dealer didnt have to do anything other than write down the phone number for the customer to call Festool Customer Support. Them offering their floor model was above and beyond on their part. Says nothing about Festool though.

I find part of the title of this thread (keep the box) funny. As somebody who has had there Kapex blow two motors in under two years it is the only tool I feel compelled too keep all the packaging for as I know I will be sending it back to Festool AGAIN!!!!!!! And mark my word it will go again if out of warranty it won't get fixed but instead replaced with a $600 DeWalt I won't have to worry about.

Dont pay full price for that. I was able to get the Bosch GCM12SD Glide for $450 shipped from AcmeTools.com when they did their last 20% off coupon code (they are currently doing a 10% off) and I got the DeWalt DWS780 I had before that for $400 brand new in box off someone on Craigslist. Look around and give it a bit for a good deal. They are definitely out there. The Kapex and Omga's are the only ones that never really have good deals other than sometimes on used ones.

Yes Timber is my Local dealer. They are very helpful and I do recommend them as a great tool source. Especially for Festool. Large selection on hand.
