Kapex 120 broken blade guard / dust shroud during cut
« on: December 16, 2018, 02:59 PM »
Hey everyone,

I’ve had my Kapex about 5 months now.  It’s been working great.  I was cutting some construction grade 2x6s today and noticed the motor bogged down a touch mid cut, but revved back up and I finished the cut.  I noticed after that the black under-guard and dust shroud was cracked and out of place.  Here’s a few pictures.

Any idea what could have caused this?

This was recently discussed in a thread called Is the Kapex Tough.  Setting your saw to bottom out lower in the bed may help and a member gave some pics. I’d call festool and have them send you a box to fix it under warranty. They usually turn it around back to you in week if you haven’t had to use the service department before.

Thanks, Jaybolishes!

I kept all my original packaging, as Festool recommends to keep it around for these situations, which seem to happen quite often.  The "Kapex Tough" thread looks exactly like what happened.  Nothing major, but I'd like to have my saw function as intended.  I've already contacted Festool, to see if I can ship it in.

Snip.

Anyone know how to do that? A quick glance at the suppl. manual did not seem to have a section on that. Thanks.

I double checked my depth, and it looks to be sufficient, at least according to the related post.  No teeth are out after the full cut is completed.  Either way, not exactly a critical part, but a part none-the-less.  I'll still send in to get fixed, and hopefully a decent re-calibration on the saw.

My Kapex is in the repair shop for that exact thing right now.   A small piece of trim shot out, hit the saw housing and broke it.  It seems like metal would be better for that part.  I have been waiting for the saw back for over a month.  The dealer is having difficulty getting the parts.  Meanwhile I am back to my Makita slider.  I have had it for 10 years.  It's much tougher than the kapex.   The trade off is it's also much heavier.

Is your dealer making the repairs?
