Problem with the spacer wedge or riving knife not retracting below the top of the blade when clicked to that position for doing hidden cuts. Very frustrating as on inspection the assembly is working safely and unobstructed. Any ideas from users to adjust or solve problem. We no longer have the manual to refer to.

Welcome to the Festool Owners Group!

There aren't many members who have the CS70, as it's not available in North America where most of our members live, but there are a few European owners, and hopefully one of them will be along shortly.

Did the knife retract below the top of the blade at one time, or has it never done so from new?

I don't have the CS70, but on my CS50 the knife can be removed quite easily by removing a bolt and the knife retaining plate with the hex key, and then the housing can be cleaned of sawdust which might be jamming the mechanism. The knife can be rather stiff to move.

With the CS 70 you can just slide the riving knife down, by pushing down on it, after removing the top dustshroud which is bolted through with a thumbscrew.

I had some trouble sliding down the riving knife on my CS70 last year, in my case I had to dissassemble it and clean of sawdust etc. caused by using spray-on lubricant when cutting aluminum. You can see how the riving knife is mounted when you take the blade off. I took some pictures when I took off mine to make sure I would reassemble the thing correctly, but I cannot find them anymore.

Thanks for your welcome and thanks for your swift replies. I dont know if the knife has ever retracted fully, no-one at the workshop seems to know.....I will methodically clean the affected area after downloading manual. ....keep you posted.

everytime my cms table saw gets stuck, it is always because of dust build up. a good clean out does the trick.

Hey Mac,

Did you loosen the nut that keeps the riving knife in place?  I always keep mine tight and then it's impossible to lower the riving knife.   I know this is probably to stupid to ask but sometimes it's things like these that get overseen.
You can use the same allan key that's used for changing blades
