a spring, about .25 in diameter and 2.75 inches long with cone shaped ends fell out from the head part of my kapex. it is tightly wound and it narrows just before the end that flares out in to a cone like shape.  it looks like it is meant to stretch and return something back to it's original position.  at that time, an inner shroud that looks like part of the dust collection also fell out.  i got that back in but can't figure out what the spring is for.  how do i put it back?

thanks

Does the blade guard still work correctly? That would be the first thing that comes to mind. I'd call Festool.

Definitely contact Festool service, the number is on your tool or you can call the number in my signature below.  I would recommend that you not use the tool until you speak with us.  My apologies for the trouble.  If you'd prefer, you can send me a PM and I'll have someone call you.

Thanks,
Shane

This is almost certainly Item No 14 in the parts diagram below, officially called a Draw Spring, with Order No 473189.

It's a very flexible spring, and it's the spring that causes the blade guard (Item 17, officially called the Protective Cover) to spring back to the closed position so that it covers the blade. If the spring has popped out on your saw, then the guard won't spring back into the closed position and the saw should not be used.

The spring coils round the centre boss of the blade guard, and one end is secured into a slot that is part of the transparent blade guard. Getting the spring located in the slot, stretched round the boss, and secured into position at the other end, can take a lot of patience!

I have never heard of the spring popping out of its own accord, and I recommend that you get Festool to sort it out for you.

thanks for the feedback.  interestingly enough, everything seems to work ok....that is, the guard normally blocks the blade and move out of the way when the saw is in use.

it is the one that returns the guard, i lost mine after a narrow offcut got stuck up between the guard and the blade . the guard will still return but stays up sometimes
on deep cuts , i fitted a new one , its easy enough to do yourself just remove the blade

My spring just fell out & I now my project is stopped midway.  I am very irritated.  Bought the Kapex about three months ago (so I'm past the initial 30 days).  I'm a weekend hobbiest w/ two little kids so you can guess how often I've used the Kapex.

Festool - How am I supposed to get this repaired?  What is the process?  I live in Alexandria Virginia.  Since limited space was one of the prime reasons I bought an extensive line of festool products, I no longer have the shipping container.

A huge disappointment for such an expensive saw . . . and probably will cause a substantial delay in my project.

Sad

Take the blade off and re-hook the spring.

Steve,

I certainly understand your frustration considering that your Kapex is relatively new.  While I believe we manufacture the best power tools in the world, there are instances where a part may fail on occasion.  We see this as a opportunity to provide you with exceptional service.

I am doing all that I can to help you get the issue resolved quickly and to your satisfaction.  I contacted Jordan Haire, our Regional Sales Manager in your area, this morning and asked if he could contact the local store where you bought the Kapex.  Jordan contacted the store manager and your dealer is willing to allow you to use their demo unit while your saw is being returned to us for repair.  I believe all arrangements are in order for you to simply drop your saw off and pick up the loaner.  Jordan should be in touch with you to coordinate everything.

If there's anything else I can do to assist in the matter, please feel free to get in touch with me directly.  Hopefully, this will prevent any delays in your project.

Kudos to your dealer for offering great service.

Shane

There are still some many people that complain about the price of the Festool tools. I'm not one of them since I know part of the price is the exceptional service. This is a great example of that service. Way to go Shane, Jordan and the dealer! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
