Title: TS55 Saw Died 3 Days After Warranty Expired
Post by: glynster on November 29, 2017, 06:42 AM
I have to give it to Festool's precision engineering when it comes to planned obsolescence, my TS55 which has had only light home use died today 29/11/17 when the warranty expired 26/11/17

I'm gutted, I have bought the entire tool range pretty much and I have budget tools I've hammered for a decade that are still going strong. Saw is completely dead, after 10 mins rest I pull thee trigger and I hear the motor almost start (like 0.25 second stir) and then its completely dead again. Saw still looks brand new. Hugely disappointed - its left me completely stranded as I am fitting new French doors, there's a gaping hole in my house and its literally freezing outside.

Obviously I have changed fuse and tried another power cable.

Update: so I figured it MIGHT be bushes so I tried rotating the blade manually a little and now the saw starts but its making a whirring noise its never made before - doesn't sound healthy. Is it likely it just needs new bushes? I cant see I have used it anywhere near enough to warrant that, I bet I haven't used this saw in 3 years as much as some might in a month.

If I recall correct the supplemental manual describes how to check for worn brushes.

I'd suspect the electronic motor control before the brushes on that saw.  Especially with the low mileage.

I got my TS55 back from Festool yesterday, repaired and turned around in a couple of days. They had replaced the Armature, motor housing, bushes and other bits - its basically a new saw electrically. What a fantastic service - and all at no cost to me. I have no idea what the fault was, I think they generously thought they would just replace all that it could be with it being at the end of its warranty and having developed an intermittent fault.Thank you Phil for intervening on my behalf. Outstanding care and service.

Glad to hear they helped you out, though I wonder whether the result would have been the same if you had just contacted Festool directly without Phil catching wind of it first.  This is the kind of stuff they need to keep doing if they expect people to tolerate the annual price increases.

I always had good service from Festool UK. Whether it was getting my American RO150 repaired, ordering a American outlet for  CT26 (yes in the UK) or ordering miscl parts

I had exactly the same thing with my TS55 REQ 110V GB i tried different extension leads, different plug-it cables & different transformers. I booked it in for repair then after reading a few posts i spoke to Festool before they collected the tool & they also said it may be the brushes, so i changed the brushes & it has worked fine ever since. I cancelled the tool collection for repair. My saw was only about 12 months old & the original brushes were only worn down by about 2mm but swapping them for new did fix the issue.

I hope your issue is the same & is fixed easily & cheaply.
