Best blade for Kapex
« on: March 27, 2017, 05:05 PM »
I've had my Kapex for 6 years now with one resharpening and now probably need to either sharpen again or upgrade.  What have you fellas found works the best?  I have Forrest blades on my SawStop and they have been great.

The Tenyru Finish blade (miter pro plus I believe it's called) for the Kapex makes it a better saw IMO. Been running it for a few years and love it. only swap into the factory  blade when I frame or do a deck. But mostly keep that blade on there. Forrest is awesome as well, last I checked though they didn't make a finish blade for the Kapex, maybe they do now. But the Tenyru is about as good as it gets and it's angle tooth which I prefer, not as grabby as the Festool blade.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it

+1 on the Tenyru:

Tenyru blades are good, but the cut quality falls off very quickly as they dull. I have one on my Kapex now and I think the original Festool blade gave me great cuts longer. I will be switching to FS Tool or Royce Ayer blades. They offer a good balance between cut quality and edge life.

I know there will be those who disagree with me I really like the oshlun blades from amazon. I install cabinets and frequently during install cut screws hidden from sight. Often the trim is stapled or nailed together and when you are cutting it you hit nails. I have a dewalt track saw, a hk 55 and a kapex. Using a expensive blade and hitting those things is out of the question. The oshlun blades have given me good service for the last 3 years and I highly recommend them. I always get flawless cuts until they wear out and at around $25 for a blade for the track saw and 56 or so for the kapex much more affordable.

I have to say that I'm not impressed with the longevity of cut quality with the 60 tooth Kapex blade. The cuts are still smooth, but there's a lot more tear out than when it was new. I use the saw only for cutting wood and wood composites (particle board).  I'm going to contact my blade vendor today and see if he has a Tenryu in stock. I'm also going to contact Forrest and see if they yet make a Kapex compatible blade.

On a side note, has anyone who is running other than FT blade notice less dust collection?

Forrest does now offer a Chopmaster sized for Kapex 120...the number is  CM26905105 at $205 but demand is reported as high and a warning about backorders is posted on their site.

I have the Forrest chopmaster , tenryu silencer, and tenryu miter pro blades and they all are very good.  The tenryu miter pro is superior for what I use it for which is cutting small HPL edge moldings.   For what its worth, the 60t festool blade that came with my saw is very good also, just not quite fine enough for the laminate molding.   None of the above blades stay sharp for long in the material I cut but are still plenty sharp for cutting wood afterwards.

How much do you typically pay to have blades sharpened?
