« on: October 13, 2014, 01:32 PM »
Hi all Festool Fans :)

Here is my new fresh review of Syslite KAL II.

I know... there is still little language problem, but I think you can handle it ;)

Enjoy!

How can one acquire the Festool mounting attachment, shown in the video, in the US.

Hi
 The diffrences are as follows

Internal battery is now 2.9Ah which gives longer run time
From 6 LEDs to 12 LEDs and provides a 'whiter' light.
Magnetic base in which Festool screw and cam clamps can be inserted to hold KAL 2 onto a beam etc.
The magnetic base will hold the unit firmly corresponding surface and requires 18kg pull to remove it.
The metal plate can be screwed to a timber stud for example and the unit positioned as needed.
Emergency light function can be set so that if the site power supply fails the KAL 2 will light up automatically (needs to be attached to the charger and switched on)
Across the front of the lens are now two 'bridges' to prevent the LEDs being damaged
Covered by Service all Inclusive in the U.K

Hope this helps

@Phil Beckley
Comparing the new to the old:

Is there a difference in light output?

Is there a difference in evenness of light spread/distribution?

Have you compared the two of them in a dark room?

Larger internal battery & emergency function  [thumbs up]

They're now available in the US locally or try Marino, Bellemare or Tool Nut. I picked one up when they were still NAINA and have used it a lot. Definitely worth the $$.

Hi
Manual is attached for the technical on the KAL2
The 'light' from the KAL2 is whiter than the previous version but the spread will be the same as no changes have been made to the body.
Sure i have compared them and the diffrence is very noticeable - White 'light' is easier to work with for prolonged periods and the run time on the battery is a great benefit.

Hi Phil,

Can you charge a battery via the Syslite ?
Let's say I have a T15 and I have forgotten the T15 battery charger..would be fab to charge the T15 battery even while not using the Syslite ? Let me know your thoughts

I doubt it as theres a lot of clever gizmos in the chargers.

I'm sure Phil will be along to say  though.

Hopefully getting my syslite set this week thanks to JRB :)

@hemdale
That's doubtful because the battery, covers up the charging hole.
In the 1st picture the charging cord is fully inserted into the light.
In the 2nd picture the battery has been inserted as far as it will go. When inserting the battery fully, it feels like the battery contacts have engaged slightly, but it's rather a hit or miss, right on the edge proposition.

Perhaps some additional plastic could be removed from one side of the charging connector to ensure better engagement with the battery contacts.

Have no idea if this would cause early pitting/damage to the battery contacts as only about 1/3 of the surface area is now being utilized. And we still don't know if there's a diode in series to prevent "back charging".

@ cheese : thanks mate.

That's a bit unfortunate since I was under the impression that  connecting the light to a wall socket would also charge the external battery.  [sad] [sad]

No unfortunately, connecting the light to a mains service only charges the internal battery of the KAL. And to use the KAL with an external battery, the external battery covers up the charging port. Festool should have spent a little more time figuring out the implementation on this one. [eek]

I'm with you Cheese, in the meantime, on the Syslite Duo, they should have put 1 or 2 additional sockets...if not, a double battery system like ton TSC55 would have been nice...even though I doubt that even 2 of the most powerful Festool batteries would be enough to cover a hugry 7000 lumens light.

Back to the original topic: I think I'll keep my headlamp for a few more months and I'm waving the Kal and Duo a sad goodbye.
