Or go even bigger!  Check these out: http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-and-tanos-systainers/sys-5-mft-twins

Thanks for the review, Peter.  I've had the CTL-SYS for about a year but you can still learn something new from an in-depth look by someone else.  (It took me while to realise there were tools under the lid!)  I really like it for use in the house - I used to lug the CT26 around - and using this drilling dust nozzle has transformed the mess I used to make drilling holes in the wall - https://www.festool.co.uk/accessory/500483---d-27-bsd#Overview.

In the spirit of modifying systainers, the Festool 702082 Systainer Attic Replacement Lids, are a great way to store drill accessories, or keep your Fein, Vecturo, or those other brand oscillating tools blades, for air tool accessories and I'm sure other people have other applications.  I've bought three of them from Lee Valley although that route gives your three more Sys IIIs that you may or may not need.  Toolnut is now pre-selling (available end of May)the lids as a stand alone.

I think the bigger boxes make more sense than the SYS-1 MFT; because you need some clearance to actually get your clamps into the box.  I've got my top switched to a SYS-2.

The SYS-MFT top is a brilliant idea, I have 3 of them on SYS-5s. It's my portable MFT for jigsawing and sanding etc. and I use them as a hop-up to reach an extra 16". One has about 70 hand tools and glue/fillers etc., another contains all the extractor components I use and the third has 8 x Bessey clamps, a small level and an Abranet sanding kit inside.
Very multi-functional and everything is well organised. I love these things...

Hi @Woodwork Wizard

I am now absolutely convinced that Festool should sell the Sys-MFT (Top) on a range of Systainer bottoms.

Perhaps @Phil Beckley could pass that on to the folks at Festool HQ - @FestoolHQ  [smile]

Hello @Peter Parfitt,

I agree, otherwise you'll end up with lots of SYS-1s after you remove the tops.
What I did was to install the SYS-5 tops on the SYS-1s and sell them on via eBay.

I saw your other thread and like the suggestion that you could use them in combination for more grown up tasks.

Excellent.

Another Systainer modification to another SYS-5. Attic lid has compartments for nails of various sizes as well as a small nail punch. A Senco 1010 compressor, an 18' hose and a nail gun are stored inside. The base of the Systainer has a piece of ply screwed to the bottom with four braked castors fixed to it. I prefer this DIY SYS cart to the Festool SYS-Cart as it doesn't protrude any further than the Systainer so makes packing in my van alongside other Systainers that much easier.
The Systainer has several holes allowing the compressor to draw in plenty of air and for the mains cable and air hose access when the lid is closed.

Hey bud, looked at the photos where are the air holes at? That's a great idea. I have a couple of sys 5 that use over here, but once I get to the states and set up shop I'll have no real use for. Well you just gave me a use for one. I'll put that compressor in one. Great way to store it.

Hello Ron,

There's a cut-out at the top of the Systainer for the mains cable enabling the lid to close, a 55mm hole at the side for the air line to pass through with 5 small holes beneath this and another 6 on the back.

I have to lay the Systainer on its front to let the condensate drain away, it's easier than removing the compressor every time I use it.

The feet were removed from the Senco 1010 compressor so it would easily go in.

I had a job in Germany a few years ago and this very nice Belgian guy joined the group. He drove to the base with all his precious vintage wine in the car. His wife had to travel by train and it took her a whole day to get there, with luggage and at least one change of trains. All because he would not let the removal guys handle his wine.

Peter

Tanos do MFT-top T-Locs in all five sizes, plus Combi 2 and 3.

(Or, at least, Vantainer in the UK sell them - I assume they are not assembling them themselves from parts…)
