[European Union] No more under table CMS kit ?
« on: July 05, 2019, 04:31 PM »
I'm looking for informations about it. On European market, Festool has stopped to sell CMS kit for everything (jigsaw, router, ...) and there is no communication about it.

Some people said this is new EU rules. Some others this is north america thing (but they are still on Festool USA website). So, does anybody have informations about it ?
thx :)

I doubt we will get an answer from Festool.  Far as it still being on the US site, remember the N.A. model is slightly different (110V) so it's going to have inventory/stock/lifecycle slightly different than other places.   I think the AU model was discontinued a few months ahead of the EU unit.  I expect the US model to be gone before too long.

I think the general assumption is it's dead.  No one has pointed to a specific EU rule/safety change that would drive this.

Festool has just launched 2 new CS table saws.  They also have the CS series Saw Stop model TK80 or similar on the way.  So they will have plenty of saws.   It very well has just run it's course.   I'm mainly curious if they launch a router setup that is built into a CS series chassis.

Festool looks to be discontinuing a lot of stuff as of late.  They may be going thru a rationalization of the product lines.

Hi!

I tried to find the corresponding regulations, ever since I heard about it. I couldn't. Probably because I'm looking at the wrong places/documents.

From what I have heard, and discussed with several people and what I think it is about: the safety switch. Stationary machines need to have one, including restart protection after a power outage (i.e.). Festool realized this on the CMS by having the switch on the CMS GE, and you plug the machine into the socket provided by that switch. While everything works as intended, all safety measures are in place.

Now if that switch is broken, it can be bypassed by simply plugging the machine directly into an outlet. No safety measures in place. And I think we all know that this is realistically what would happen on many construction sites, before a replacement switch is eventually ordered, or the CMS GE repaired.

If a switch on a real, stationary machine is broken - it can't be easily bypassed.

I think that's the root that caused this.

Kind regards,
Oliver
