I am buying a CXS kit tomorrow. It seems as if the CXS has become the most used drill for most cabinetry and woodworking projects. I hear a lot say it complements a T15 very well, what about a T12? I have a large basement remodel coming up and am contemplating picking up a T12 with it (last years at a reduced price), or should I hold off and get a T15 (new features, new price)? I had a T15 some time ago but sold it cause I used my c12 for everything. Well, the batteries died and I sold the body on the C12. So, will the T12 handle a basement makeover (while I can also save some $) with the CXS or should I get the T 15? Is the 15 that much more powerful than the 12?

If your choice is between adding either a T12 or T15, my vote is for the T15. They're both 10.8 volt drills only differences are the amp/hr rating which will be a difference in run time and the T12 will give you around twice as much torque from the T12's bigger motor, but the T15 is even more powerful for a negligible weight gain over the T12.

GhostFist - It is purely to save some money. You can still find the older T12's at a reduced price. Although, I have held both the 12 and 15 and I think the 12 fits my hand better. They are actually different bodies and the 12 seems to be a bit slimmer.
Builderbob - It looks as if you may have a T12 in your arsenal, is the 15 that much more powerful in real life scenarios than the 12?

I, too, have the T15 and the CSX and use them for building furniture and cabinets. I find they compliment each other very well. I use the CSX the most because of the size and weight, but the T15 comes in very handy for heavier uses and when I want to use two drills to drill holes and then drive screws. |

What about the T18? More power and hardly any bigger.
I went down this path ...
+ CXS
+ T18 (2.6Am, no light)
-- T18 (2.6Am, no light) (swapped back)
+ Ti15
+ C15
... was waiting on the latest update to the T18 - 3.0Ah ... but instead it's going to be ...
+ Protool PDC 18-4
... just waiting on fresh stock through my dealer.
My thinking is the CXS gives the 90% covered - you want big grunt available for the other 10% if you need it.

You know that there is a new PDC 18 coming this spring?
Some changes:
- a light
- a battery load indicator
- 3,0 Ah batteries
- a few cosmetic changes

Hi RvB, No the makeover is for all the battery drilling machines.: DRC 12+18-4, PDC 12+18-4 and IWC 18-2. Why they dumped the 15V I don't know? |

WoodPulp, I do also have the T12 which I use specifically in the shop for predrilling, etc. It's a great drill the size & weight is very comfortable. I purchased the C15 for the light & battery life in the field and put the T12 in the shop. I would certainly recommend the C/T 12 if you're looking for more power than the CXS but not trying to go too heavy in weight.

That is what I was looking for, thanks. Would you trust the T12 to remodel a complete basement, anything from framing to electrical? I ljust like the size and weight better than the 15 but on the other hand the extra power could never hurt. After this it will spend its time mostly in the shop. |
