Any one have a real life experience with cutting a lot of mortises in end grain Ipe?
How many cutters did you break? How many holes before the cutter was dull?
I will use the 6mm.

In our cabinets we use quite a lot of Ipe. My experience is that Ipe causes our Domino bits no more problem than any other wood.

Darcy,
Check out the project from one of our Domino XL test users, about half way down this page.

Lots of Ipe and no complaints of issues with the cutters.
I've heard of guys with the DF 500 using it for Ipe, but don't have photos.

I would guess that I cut about 500-600 mortises into ipe spindles for a railing job. I never broke a bit but I would definitely say the bit was a little worn. Size was a 10mm into endgrain.

Darcy,
I've used 5mm dominos on burmese teak, and did not have any problems. No breakage and bit still seems to cut well. Never used ipe, so don't know how that compares to the teak, but teak is very tough on bits and blades.

Darcy,
I just finished an outdoor kitchen in ipe and cut maybe 4-500 domino slots with both 4 and 5 mm cutters. Both held up very well, better than I expected. No breakage and I'm not sure they really lost much edge. I plan to try the ipe 5mm cutter side by side with a new one in maple tomorrow. I'll post the results.
